Global Solar brand WINAICO Unveils Module for Aquaculture

HSINCHU, Oct. 1, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- With the drive to reach zero net, solar power has emerged as the most cost-effective option. It is commonly installed on the rooftops, as well as on large surfaces and in aquatic areas. Year after year, the benefits of solar-aquaculture synergy grow. The fishing community in Southern Taiwan has been embracing the multi-benefit of employing solar power to enhance aquaculture environments, stabilize fishery growth, and accelerate the development of renewable energy. Szu-Ming Chen, Chairman of WIN WIN Precision Technology Co., Ltd., highlighted the significant differences between the aquaculture environment and everyday settings. He explained that conventional solar modules, if installed on fish farms, are prone to corrosion from water vapor, acidity and salt, which can adversely affect their power generation efficiency. Global Solar brand WINAICO Unveils Module for Aquaculture This year, the company will launch the AQUA salt-resistant double-glass module series, featuring double-layer coated glass with excellent density and light transmittance, POE encapsulation technology, highly waterproof seal performance of junction box, and apply a thicker oxidized film coating to shield the aluminum frame from corrosion. Scaling Up Sustainability: State Grid's Role in Zhejiang's Salmon Aquaculture Growth

NINGBO, China, July 24, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- The initial stage of the Nordic (China) RAS land-based salmon aquaculture project in Gaotangdaoxiang, a town in Xiangshan County, Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, has achieved full production capacity. Consequently, Atlantic salmon produced in Zhejiang is now being regularly distributed to restaurants and supermarkets throughout the Yangtze River Delta region. The facility dispatches over 70 tonnes of salmon each week, with an expected annual production value nearing 300 million yuan. This venture is Asia's first to raise salmon on land using Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) technology and represents a key foreign investment in Zhejiang Province's marine biology industry. The project leverages Norwegian aquaculture techniques and management knowledge. Water for the facility is drawn from the East China Sea and treated through advanced filtration, disinfection, and oxygenation processes, ensuring a stable environment suitable for raising genuine Atlantic salmon locally. The success of the project hinges significantly on a reliable electricity supply, essential for maintaining water quality and temperature control critical to raising healthy fish. Environmental system specialists from State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power have performed detailed onsite assessments at the facility to ensure that everything operates smoothly. Their work includes inspecting for electrical safety hazards and maintaining key equipment, with a particular focus on the systems that manage water circulation and monitor its quality—crucial steps to guarantee the production of high-quality fish. Plans are underway to scale up the facility, aiming for an annual production capacity of 20,000 tonnes. The expansion is expected to significantly reduce China's reliance on imported salmon and address the high costs and lack of freshness that often accompany imported products. To ensure the project remains on schedule, State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power is collaborating with the facility to develop an energy-efficient power program. The utility is also coordinating future power needs and construction plans to expedite the project's progress.

University of Technology Sydney (UTS) collaborates with Vietnamese university researchers to create water monitoring solution for aquaculture

Thanks to a proven model of rapid technology transfer, an innovative real-time sea-water monitoring system is now supporting the aquaculture industry and environmental protection in Vietnam. SYDNEY, Feb. 14, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- A groundbreaking collaboration between UTS, Vietnam National University and Ho Chi Minh University of Technology has led to the development of a real-time sea-water monitoring system in Xuan Dai Bay, Vietnam. A water monitoring station in Xuan Dai Bay in Vietnam. Photo supplied. As the system is scalable and non-site specific, the technology has the potential to be used not just in further sites across Vietnam, but globally, and the team is actively seeking new partners to help them realise its full potential. The project, funded by Aus4Innovation and part of UTS Rapido Vietnam, employs the latest Industry 4.0 technologies such as Internet of Things, data analytics, and mechatronics. "Aquaculture is an important industry in Vietnam, generating an income of AUD$11 billion per year. But while it can have rich economic rewards for farmers and the regions they live in, it can be a precarious livelihood," says Professor Eryk Dutkiewicz, the chief investigator of the project at UTS. The system, launched in March 2020, monitors temperature, acidity, ammonia, dissolved oxygen, salinity, and turbidity, providing real-time data to farmers. The advanced technology withstands harsh conditions, offering alerts for timely decision-making. The monitoring stations, the first of its kind in Vietnam, are now permanent fixtures in the bay. Mr Le Tan Ho is Vice President of Phu Yen province and was impressed with both the UTS team and the results of the project. He says the information it has provided has been invaluable for decision making. "The data from the realtime seawater monitoring system allows the local government to assess and better plan aquaculture and other activities like tourism towards the sustainable social and economic development goals while protecting environment and coping with global climate changes, especially in coastal areas," says Mr Le Tan Ho. The research team hopes the application of IoT platforms for coastal water system management in Phú Yên will just be the start. The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is one of the top 100 universities in the world and a leading public university of technology with global impact. Visit discover.uts.edu.au to learn more.
