LONGi joins UN Global Compact Forward Faster initiative to accelerate private sector action to reach SDGs

NEW YORK, Sept. 20, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- The world leading solar technology company LONGi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (LONGi) joined a new initiative today at the Private Sector Forum during the SDG Summit 2023 to accelerate private sector action at the pace and scale needed to deliver on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and meet the 2030 Agenda. The UN Global Compact Forward Faster initiative calls on business leaders everywhere to take measurable, credible and ambitious action in areas that have the power to accelerate progress across all 17 SDGs where the private sector can collectively make the biggest, fastest impact by 2030. The SDG Progress Report released earlier this year by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, showed that just 15 per cent of the Sustainable Development Goal targets are on track, progress on 48 per cent is weak and insufficient and progress has stalled or gone into reverse on 37 per cent of the SDGs. Mr. Li Zhenguo participated in the Private Sector Forum 2023 with United Nations officials and business leaders. Photo: Joel Sheakoski/UN Global Compact "Renewable energy is seen as key to achieving multiple SDGs." LONGi's founder and president Li Zhenguo shared his insights with other participants of the forum. Mr. Li Zhenguo believes that the development and promotion of renewable energy technologies can not only provide power for the clean energy transition and reduce carbon emissions, but also promote socio-economic growth, create job opportunities, enhance energy security, improve health and education levels. By increasing investment and promotion in renewable energy technologies, feasible solutions can be provided for SDGs, while creating a more sustainable future for global social, economic, and environmental challenges. Mr. Li Zhenguo further explained. The Forward Faster initiative focuses on five action areas: Gender Equality, Climate Action, Living Wages, Water Resilience, and Finance & Investment. LONGi has committed to 3 detailed targets in 2 action areas: Gender Equality Equal representation, participation and leadership across all levels of management by 2030. Equal pay for work of equal value by 2030. Climate Action Contribute to a just transition by taking concrete actions that address social impacts of climate change mitigation and adaptation measures in partnership with actors such as workers, unions, communities and suppliers. At Private Sector Forum 2023, global business leaders shared their views with governments and announced ambitious actions and investments to advance the achievement of the SDGs. The forum also praised the pioneer of United Nations Global Compact's "Forward Faster" initiative - companies that have committed to achieving ambitious goals before the launch of the Forum, including LONGi. About LONGi Founded in 2000, LONGi is committed to being the world's leading solar technology company, focusing on customer-driven value creation for full scenario energy transformation. Under its mission of 'making the best of solar energy to build a green world', LONGi has dedicated itself to technology innovation and established five business sectors, covering mono silicon wafers cells and modules, commercial & industrial distributed solar solutions, green energy solutions and hydrogen equipment. The company has honed its capabilities to provide green energy and has more recently, also embraced green hydrogen products and solutions to support global zero carbon development. www.longi.com

2023 SDGs Asia Let the world see Taiwan’s activities for sustainable development at all levels!

The SDGs Asia exposition featured more than 400 exhibits by 120 organizations including central and local governments, corporates, universities, and NGOs. Through dialogs and discussions at the SDGs Asia summit and the SDGs Asia forum, stakeholders stayed connected, shared sustainability practices, and found solutions to move toward a net-zero future. In response to Taiwan’s actions for sustainable development, Taipei 101, which is the world’s tallest green building, turned on all exterior lights during the night on July 20. The event was co-led by the National Council for Sustainable Development and the Alliance for Sustainable Development Goals (A·SDGs) and hosted by Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE). During the Sustainability Action Awards ceremony, chief sustainability officers across different public and private sectors that were awarded gathered to celebrate their achievements in sustainable development. At the opening of the award-giving ceremony, Chen Chien-Jen, President of the Executive Yuan, presented the awards to the award winners. He said that our government passed Taiwan’s Climate Change Response Act in January making a plan for Taiwan’s pathway to net-zero emissions in 2050 and legislated a law to elevate the status of the Environmental Protection Administration to the Ministry of the Environment. Moreover, to achieve net-zero emissions, the National Development Fund of the Executive Yuan and the Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation jointly establish the Taiwan Carbon Credit Exchange. He believed that enhancing the partnerships between government agencies, corporates, and civilians can help Taiwan achieve net-zero emissions and develop a sustainable future for the next generations. Another presenter for the Sustainable Action Awards was You Si-Kun, President of the Legislative Yuan. He said assertively that the extreme weather has affected many millions of people on the planet, and therefore, taking action to reduce carbon emissions is more urgent than ever before. We must take action now! Eugene Chien, Chairman of TAISE and the host of 2023 SDGs Asia, said that the United Nations launched the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and announced 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015. Although Taiwan is not a member state of the United Nations, our government and private sectors have made efforts to achieve the SDGs and have implemented SDG 17 for the global partnership for sustainable development. He expected that promoting the Asia Pacific Sustainability Action Awards (APSAA) could demonstrate Taiwan’s determination and action to achieve SDGs. This year, the APSAA committee received 79 submissions to be considered for 68 awards and 321 sustainability action case studies to be selected for 279 excellent case studies. At the ceremony, he paid tribute to the APSAA winners, honoring the organizations and individuals that have dedicated themselves to age-friendly society, health and wellbeing, net-zero transitions, gender equality, social inclusion, environmental protection, and climate actions. To promote Taiwan’s pathway to net-zero emissions, the theme of our exposition was “Towards a Net-Zero Future” and had 7 exhibit areas: policy, cities, corporations, education, non-governmental organizations, living, and energy. All exhibit areas provided an ideal opportunity for all participatory organizations to showcase their strategies for sustainability transition. Furthermore, the exposition included 12 sustainability forums and 6 summits. We encouraged the public to join the events to experience sustainable lifestyles. For instance, joining the Taipei Golden Eagle Micro-Movie Festival Broadcast and the Climate Change Painting Competition Exhibition could have the opportunity to explore several sustainable topics like sustainable cities. Chairman Eugene Chien also reiterated President Tsai Ing-Wen’s statement on Earth Day that the transition to net zero by 2050 is a global aim—that is Taiwan’s mission as well. He anticipated through summits, forums, award ceremonies, and events to integrate public and private sectors to achieve SDGs in Taiwan. 2023 SDGs Asia took place at Taipei World Trade Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday through Sunday, July 21-23. The exposition was open for all people to participate in a full day of events and exhibitions in this venue, located in the heart of Taipei! Find the link for your reference: 1. Nagad ignites SDGs thru' digital financial inclusion in Bangladesh

DHAKA, Bangladesh, July 14, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Nagad, the world's fastest-growing mobile money carrier based in Bangladesh, has been instrumental in speeding up this South Asian country's journey towards achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) through its relentless efforts in the form of digital financial inclusion of underserved people. The SDGs were adopted by United Nations in 2015 with a universal call for action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity. In terms of meeting SDGs, Bangladesh has had positive outcomes in areas, such as poverty eradication, education, health, employment, gender equality, and financial inclusion. Nagad is working with the government as its development partner and is leading the way towards attaining SDGs. By leveraging state-on-the-art technologies and disruptive innovations, Nagad has expanded access to financial services, particularly for unbanked and underbanked individuals. People can easily open accounts digitally, make instant transactions, and access various financial services using this platform. The company has recently reached the milestone of 80 million registered customers, with its daily transactions reaching over USD111 million on average. The MFS carrier provides a convenient and secure means for individuals, especially in remote areas, to store, transfer money using their mobile phones and engage in economic activities, thus empowering people who previously lacked access to traditional banking services. The state-owned mobile money operator also digitalised G2P payments, such as social safety allowances, education stipends, and other financial aid. By digitising such payments, Nagad ensures faster, more efficient, and transparent disbursements, reducing leakage and ensuring that funds reach the intended beneficiaries promptly. In this way, it is helping Bangladesh government find sustainable solutions to alleviate poverty and achieve food security. It has so far disbursed over USD 1.85 billion among beneficiaries. Nagad has simplified the account opening process which does not require any paperwork. People now can open accounts either through e-KYC on smartphones or by simply dialling *167# on their feature phones. Thus, the use of papers has reduced, resulting in a positive impact on environment. Tanvir A Mishuk, founder and managing director of Nagad Limited, said, "We think development should be sustainable. Keeping this in mind, we have been working as a development partner of the government since we entered the mobile financial market. Nagad is making a clear contribution to at least 9 out of the 17 SDGs." The SDGs can be a stepping stone to reach our goal of Smart Bangladesh by 2041. In this case, Nagad will be a powerful tool, he noted. About Nagad Ltd (https://www.nagad.com.bd/) Nagad Limited is one of the leading MFS operators in Bangladesh's payment industry with 80 million registered customers and an average daily transaction of over USD 111 million. The payment platform, known as a successful public-private partnership between Bangladesh Postal Department and the private sector, was inaugurated in 2019 by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of the people's republic of Bangladesh.
