President of Chile, Gabriel Boric, Inaugurates InvestChile 2022 International Forum

The President made this statement at the event that brings together more than 100 representatives of companies from 28 countries with investment projects worth US $4 billion. SANTIAGO, Chile, Dec. 14, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Over 100 representatives of companies from 28 countries with 56 investment projects worth US $4 billion and 1,900 potential jobs are participating in the InvestChile 2022 International Forum, which is Chile's most important event for attracting foreign investment. InvestChile is the government agency responsible for promoting Chile in the global market as a destination for foreign direct investment.  The event was inaugurated this morning by the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, together with the Economy, Development and Tourism Minister, Nicolás Grau, and the InvestChile Director, Karla Flores.  The President referred to Chile's potential to attract new investments since it offers tremendous opportunities and institutional solidity "that will help us to progress and improve the quality of life of our people, while making a global contribution. This requires reactivating the economy, where foreign investment plays a tremendously important role. Greater investment is synonymous with new jobs, which will restore peace of mind to thousands of families who have suffered as a result of our economic downturn, due to the COVID-19 crisis and the global economic slowdown", said President Boric.   Good news for Foreign Investment  Minister Grau confirmed that the Forum is an extremely important opportunity for Chile to reinforce its commitment to foreign investment. "As you are well aware, despite difficulties worldwide, this has been a good year for Chile in terms of foreign investment. However, Chile has tremendous potential due to its institutional strength, its physical and digital infrastructure and because Chile can clearly combine the fight against the climate change with economic dynamism and greater investment in a totally exceptional manner", said the Secretary of State.   Karla Flores is the InvestChile Director, and she sees the forum as a sign that foreign companies have a positive, long-term interest in investing in Chile. "We are fully committed as an agency to attracting investment projects to Chile so they can positively benefit our entire business ecosystem, add dynamism to our markets, generate greater competition, improve service quality and citizen access in key industries, all of which will improve the quality of life for Chilean citizens", said Ms. Flores.   The first such Forum was held in 2014. It aims to provide participating companies with first-hand knowledge of emerging investment opportunities, new economic strategies and foreign investment policies in Chile. This is the sixth Forum and projects here focus on the Circular Economy, Global Services, Fintech, Tourism and Green Hydrogen. The companies that have submitted the most investment initiatives were from the USA, France, Argentina and Japan. InvestChile Launches 'How to Invest in Chile' Guide in Japanese

The Chilean Foreign Investment Promotion Agency has launched a new publication to facilitate investment by Japanese companies in Chile SANTIAGO, Chile, Sept. 08, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In order to make it easier for Japanese companies to invest in Chile, the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency InvestChile has launched a new edition of its "How to Invest in Chile" Investor's Guide in Japanese. Published online, the step-by-step guide is designed to serve as a "roadmap" for companies considering Chile as a potential destination for investment. "At InvestChile, we feel that cultural differences, mainly in terms of language, can be narrowed in these times of greater connectivity and globalized business. In this context, our new 'How to Invest in Chile' investor's guide fills a clear gap with regard to potential Japanese investors: the lack of official material in their own language," said Karla Flores, the recently appointed director of InvestChile.  "In the new guide, you can find all the basic step-by-step information for setting up your company, from the tax structure to environmental permits and labor laws. In this way, as an agency, we are helping to bridge the gap between the two countries' business culture in a context of Japanese companies' growing interest in our country," she added.   With 14 chapters that include legal and commercial matters, the guide in Japanese is available here.   Main source of Asian investment "Japanese companies have been present in Chile for decades and are characterized by their high level of sophistication," said the director of InvestChile Karla Flores. She emphasized that the opportunities Chile offers for Japanese companies include the development of solar energy, information technologies, mining equipment, functional foods and special interest tourism. "We want these companies which are in higher value-added sectors to come to Chile; that is the main reason we opened the InvestChile office in Tokyo and we are now publishing our investor's guide in Japanese," added Flores. Japan is the world's third-largest economy and Chile's principal source of investment from Asia. According to Chilean Central Bank figures, Japan is one of the largest players in the country with investments totaling more than US$3,131 million in 2020. Over 60 Japanese companies currently have operations in Chile. Do you want to expand your business to Latin America? These 95 projects have created over 5,300 jobs, which represents 32% more than in 2021 and they are already adding to our economy. "Despite a challenging local and global economic outlook, we managed to close 2022 with positive figures by number of projects, as well as by value and number of associated jobs. We secured investments totaling US $12,296 million for Chile last year, which created over 5,300 jobs, an increase of 32% over 2021. Although these projects are supported by the agency, they have not yet become part of InvestChile's portfolio, as they are still at an early stage prior to environmental assessment.
