BEIJING, Nov. 27, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Senior Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong in Beijing on Tuesday, calling for further synergy of development strategies and enhanced cooperation. Commending the remarkable achievements Singapore made during Lee's tenure as prime minister, Xi spoke highly of Lee's long-term support for China-Singapore cooperation. The two sides established an all-round high-quality future-oriented partnership last year, setting a strategic course for the development of bilateral ties, Xi said. Noting that next year will mark the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Singapore, Xi called on the two countries to strengthen high-level exchanges and deepen cooperation in various fields, so as to deliver more benefits to the two peoples and make greater contributions to regional peace and prosperity. At the invitation of the Chinese side, Lee is visiting China from November 24 to 29. According to Singapore-based CNA, this is Lee's first visit to China since stepping down as Singaporean prime minister in May. While delivering the keynote address at the China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park High-Quality Development Forum in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu Province on Monday, Lee said that it would be both "short-sighted" and "unwise" to write off China, the world's second-largest economy, despite challenges at home and abroad, CNA reported. "China's development is an enterprise that will take 100 years. It has shown that it can take a strategic perspective to maintain consistent policies and direction over the long term, riding through transient ups and downs in its development journey," Lee said. After Beijing, Lee will make his third and final stop in Shanghai, where he will meet overseas Singaporeans, the Singaporean Prime Minister's Office said in a press release. Lee is accompanied by other ministers and senior officials in foreign affairs, education, national development, trade and industry, culture, community and youth, among others, the Prime Minister's Office announced. "Lee's visit is anticipated to promote the development of bilateral relations and lay the foundation for further growth," Gu Xiaosong, dean of the ASEAN Research Institute at Hainan Tropical Ocean University, told the Global Times on Tuesday. Chen Hong, executive director of the Asia-Pacific Studies Center at East China Normal University, noted that the spirit of pragmatism is the cornerstone of China-Singapore relations, as both countries engage in cooperation based on their common interests. Lee, now a Senior Minister, is one of China's most frequently visiting foreign leaders - having made more than 10 trips as prime minister in the two decades from 2004, South China Morning Post reported. During his China visit in March 2023, the two sides elevated bilateral ties to an all-round high-quality future-oriented partnership, charting the course for the future development of bilateral relations. The Senior Minister can have positive and proactive influence on the current Singaporean government's policy toward China, which makes Lee's China visit hold important significance, Chen told the Global Times on Tuesday. China and Singapore are both important countries in the Asia-Pacific and have made important contributions to maintaining stability and prosperity in the region. "Especially against the backdrop of the changing international situation, further consolidating bilateral relations will not only benefit the two countries but also the region," Chen said. Gu noted that the China-Singapore relationship not only focuses on developing bilateral ties but also extends to a broader scope, such as how to promote the friendly development of relations between China and ASEAN. According to the Xinhua News Agency, 26 investment cooperation projects between China and Singapore were signed on Monday in Suzhou Industrial Park. The projects, spanning sectors like biopharmaceuticals, collaborative innovation and the digital economy, were reached during the China-Singapore Investment Forum held in Suzhou Industrial Park, the first intergovernmental cooperation project between China and Singapore. The senior minister's trip to China comes less than two weeks after a visit to the US, which concluded on November 14, according to the Singaporean Foreign Ministry. "Although Lee stepped down as prime minister, he still wields significant political influence. This is not only due to his family background - his father, Lee Kuan Yew- but also because of the extensive network of relationships he has built with leaders from countries like China and the US over the years," Gu said. The Asia-Pacific is a key engine driving global economy. Its peace and prosperity have far-reaching implications for global stability and development, Chen said, adding that Singapore has a special importance given its strategic location at the crossroads of two oceans.
SINGAPORE, Nov. 26, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Sleepy showrooms filled with dubious characters used to be the defining feature of Singapore's used car trade, but the sector has seen rapid change in the past years. Founded as an online car classifieds page, Sgcarmart's arrival brought much needed light to consumers shopping in an otherwise opaque market. Those looking to purchase a used car could now see just what alternatives were available, all at clearly stated prices, with the simple click of a few buttons. The firm had finally corrected the long unaddressed discrepancy of market knowledge back in favour of the everyday consumer, and with this, came fairer prices for all looking to purchase a set of wheels. But Sgcarmart did not rest content with what it had achieved. As consumer habits and expectations evolved in the rapidly growing city-state, so too did the firm evolve. On the front-end, the firm has embraced new programming languages, integrating it across its projects even as the dominance of the programming language only started to become apparent. Alongside this, Sgcarmart also made the transition to more modern frameworks, moves that have enabled it to create more efficient and user-friendly applications. The changes have been a welcome beacon for all in Singapore. Today, the Sgcarmart website and accompanying app is packed with prices and details of new and used cars alike (information that is much needed in this market). Users can also easily obtain information on vehicle care and maintenance, and there's a host of resources for individuals to obtain parts and accessories for their vehicles. More recently, Sgcarmart has also taken to integrate AI into its workflows, allowing it to enhance staff productivity while ensuring it remains ready to tackle future challenges with confidence. Propelling this most recent embrace of technology is Sgcarmart's GM of Product Development, Mrs. Paustina Chou, who recently won the Tech Talent Assembly award for "Tech Talent Builders". Together with the team, she has designed and developed a multifaceted strategy designed to foster tech talent growth at Sgcarmart, building the people that have stood at the centre of the firm's innovation. With the goal of ensuring that talents are up to date with the latest emerging market trends including the growth of modern development frameworks, widespread use of generative AI, as well as the maturing of cloud computing and machine learning, she has worked closely with the teams under her care to ensure all within the firm stay updated in a rapidly evolving tech landscape. Shahrul Tahir, CEO of Sgcarmart, said, "At Sgcarmart, we continue to cement our position as Singapore's no.1 automotive platform by our continuous pursuit on improvement, both on technology and on talent development." There's still more work to be done, of course. 2024 saw car prices in the country skyrocket, while a multi-day failure of one of the nation's oldest train lines has led to renewed doubts about how the state ought to manage its public transport infrastructure. Addressing these will no doubt require clever solutions from the world of public policy and urban planning. But the nation can at least rest easy with the knowledge that when it comes to applying new tech, the (head) lights at Sgcarmart are shining brighter than ever. About SGCM Pte Ltd As the first choice car site with over 30,000 listings, Sgcarmart offers the largest database of new and used cars, with an average of 10 cars sold every hour, helping to drive approximately 70% of all second-hand car transactions in Singapore. The platform receives more than 1.6 million users every month, offering the highest level of support for drivers with its suite of value-added car ownership & transactional services.
HONG KONG SAR - Media OutReach Newswire - 26 November 2024 - Coda Bridge, a pioneering Hong Kong-based blockchain platform provider known for its charity project that leverages blockchain technology to ensure accurate tracking of charitable donations, is pleased to announce its expansion into Singapore in collaboration with StraitsX. The upcoming collaboration aims to leverage blockchain technology and smart contract programming to issue Purpose Bound Money (PBM) in the form of meal vouchers to eligible migrant workers and other underserved communities to dine at Dignity Kitchen Singapore. Coda Bridge's platform has already seen significant success in Hong Kong, having partnered with Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Hong Kong, and Dignity Kitchen (Hong Kong), a social enterprise that employs physically challenged and disadvantaged people. The Hong Kong project, which was rolled out in May 2024, saw the distribution of HK$500 electronic meal vouchers to beneficiary families of the local chapter of RMHC, redeemable at Dignity Kitchen Hong Kong. The upcoming pilot in Singapore will see Coda Bridge utilise StraitsX's platform solutions and its Singapore dollar pegged stablecoin, XSGD to power backend acceptance flows of the PBM digital meal vouchers, guaranteeing that charity donations from Ray of Hope reach the intended beneficiaries and are spent specifically for dining at Dignity Kitchen Singapore. Beneficiaries can then use their mobile phone to scan a merchant-presented QR code at Dignity Kitchen and seamlessly pay using their vouchers. At the end of the project, Dignity Kitchen can redeem the digital vouchers collected from beneficiaries and receive cash through a reconciliation process with Ray of Hope. PBM is a protocol that specifies the conditions upon which an underlying digital currency (such as stablecoins) can be used, which has the capability for money to be directed towards a specific purpose, and the potential to promote increased donation by providing unprecedented transparency and integrity in the donation process. Using the StraitsX issued stablecoin that is compliant with the forthcoming Singapore regulatory framework, Coda Bridge highlights their commitment to revolutionise the global charity landscape through digital innovation while ensuring continual compliance with evolving regulatory frameworks. In addition, the versatility of StraitsX-issued stablecoin extends beyond commercial use cases such as the recent go-live of a cross-border solution allowing Alipay+ payment partner apps to pay at GrabPay merchants in Singapore. By tapping on the capabilities of programmable money, StraitsX and Coda Bridge envision a future characterized by groundbreaking efficiency in funds transfer across multiple real-world use cases. This pilot project will run from November 2024 to February 2025. If successful, this innovation in charity donations will expand the use cases of PBM and XSGD with the aim of including more charities and social enterprises within Singapore.
