CGTN: China, France people-to-people bonds usher in new era on 60 years of diplomatic ties

BEIJING, Jan. 29, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday exchanged congratulations with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, on the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Attaching great importance to the development of bilateral ties, Xi said he stands ready to work with Macron to take the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties as an opportunity to open up a new future and make China-France comprehensive strategic partnership more solid and dynamic, further contributing to improving the well-being of the two peoples and of humanity. Deep bonds forged between two peoples Over the decades, the people of China and France have forged deep bonds in their friendly exchanges and shared cultural exploration. This winter at the distinguished Harbin Ice and Snow World, a landscape inspired by the China-France Year of Culture and Tourism is a vivid proof of these exchanges. It incorporates two world-famous cultural heritage sites, the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris and the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. The two ice sculptures, which represent China and France, are connected by a bridge symbolizing friendship. The sculptures were unveiled by French Tourism Minister Olivia Grégoire when he officially declared the commencement of the 2024 China-France Year of Culture and Tourism at the Harbin Ice and Snow World on January 5. Echoing Xi's congratulatory message, Macron said in his message on Saturday that he looks forward to working with the Chinese president to promote bilateral economic, cultural, and youth exchanges. Macron also said he looks forward to continually deepening France-China comprehensive strategic partnership with Xi, so that both sides can infuse renewed vitality into bilateral relations for the next 60 years. Promoting closer people-to-people ties In a video speech to a reception in Beijing celebrating the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and France, Xi urged the two sides to expand cultural and people-to-people exchanges, and promote closer people-to-people ties by taking the China-France Year of Culture and Tourism and the Paris Olympic Games as opportunities. In November 2023, the 6th meeting of the China-France high-level dialogue mechanism on people-to-people exchanges was held in Beijing when the foreign ministers of both countries witnessed the signing of cooperation documents in fields such as education and scientific research, cultural tourism and health, with the release of a list of high-quality cultural exchange activities between the two countries in 2024. In the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, the Chinese Olympic Committee will set up a "China House" during the event to host sports achievement displays, Chinese sports culture displays, and foster interactions between athletes in Chinese and French sports circles, among other activities to add more excitement to the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games, Chinese Ambassador to France Lu Shaye told China Media Group on Friday. Lu also noted that people-to-people exchanges between China and France have warmed up in the post-pandemic era. "Nearly 46,000 Chinese are studying in France and around 1,000 primary and secondary schools in France have opened Chinese language courses, with over 100,000 students learning Chinese." Meanwhile, China rolled out a 15-day visa-free entry policy for ordinary passport holders from six countries, including France, further facilitating people-to-people exchanges. "If the China-France relationship is a big tree, the friendship between the two peoples is the firm and solid foundation," said Lu. https://news.cgtn.com/news/2024-01-27/Chinese-French-bonds-go-deeper-on-60-years-of-diplomatic-ties-1qI6XKHPt60/p.html

International community's prevailing consensus on upholding one-China principle will become more solid

BEIJING, Jan. 26, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- A report from People's Daily: China and Nauru signed a joint communique on the resumption of diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level on Jan. 24, which made Nauru the 183rd country to have diplomatic ties with China.. The resumption of diplomatic relations between China and Nauru once again proved that the one-China principle is where global opinion trends and where the arc of history bends. There is but one China in the world, Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory and the Government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. This has been clearly recognized by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 and widely recognized by the international community. As an independent sovereign country, the Republic of Nauru announced that it recognizes the one-China principle, breaks the so-called "diplomatic ties" with the Taiwan authorities and seeks to reestablish diplomatic ties with China. It is in line with the interests of Nauru and the will of the people in the country. It conforms to basic norms governing international relations and the trend of history. The resumption of diplomatic ties between China and Nauru shows that "Taiwan independence" goes against the tide of history, and it is a path to nowhere. Since 2016, 11 countries including Nauru have established or resumed diplomatic relations with China, and severed "diplomatic relations" with the Taiwan region. Recently, following the elections in China's Taiwan region, over 100 countries and international organizations have reaffirmed their commitment to the one-China principle, their firm support for China's effort to safeguard the nation's sovereignty and territorial integrity, their opposition to any form of "Taiwan independence" and their support for China's cause of national reunification. This represents the call for justice and peace from the international community, reflects the extensive consensus of the international community in firmly upholding the UN Charter and the basic norms governing international relations. Taiwan has never been a country and will never be one. Those who seek Taiwan's independence to split the Chinese territory will surely be severely punished by history and the law. Any country that violates the one-China principle, interferes in China's internal affairs and infringes on China's sovereignty will be jointly opposed by all the Chinese people and the international community as a whole. China and Nauru see vast prospects for cooperation after their resumption of diplomatic relations, which will benefit Nauru's economic development and improve people's livelihoods. It will also contribute to peace, stability, and prosperity in the Pacific island countries. China's policy toward Pacific island countries is founded on the "four fully respects." First, China fully respects the sovereignty and independence of Pacific island countries, and upholds the equality of all countries, big or small; second, China fully respects the will of Pacific island countries and follows the principles of extensive consultation, joint contribution, shared benefits, and win-win results; third, China fully respects the cultural traditions of Pacific island nations, and pursues harmony without uniformity and the common development of diverse cultures; fourth, China fully respects Pacific island countries' efforts to seek strength through unity, and supports them in implementing the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent, so as to contribute to the building of a peaceful, harmonious, secure, inclusive, and prosperous Blue Pacific. Under the guidance of the "four fully respects," China's exchange and cooperation with Pacific island countries have been continuously expanding, bringing immense benefits to the people of both sides. In recent years, the Solomon Islands and Kiribati have successively chosen to establish and restore diplomatic relations with China, removing political barriers for cooperation with China. China started vigorous exchange and cooperation with the two countries in various fields and at all levels. They signed Belt and Road cooperation documents and have achieved many early fruits in mutually beneficial cooperation. After restoring diplomatic relations, China and Nauru will engage in practical cooperation in various fields on the basis of equality and mutual benefit, which will open up a brighter future for Nauru's development. China will achieve national reunification and Taiwan will inevitably return to the embrace of the motherland. Standing up for the one-China principle is the right thing to do and a trend that no force can hold back. It is believed that more members of the international community will recognize the trend of history, and establish or restore diplomatic relations with China. The international community's prevailing consensus on upholding the one-China principle will become more solid. The Chinese people's just cause of opposing "Taiwan independence" separatism and external interference and striving for national reunification will win more understanding and support.

Georgia E60 Highway: Linking Eurasian Corridor through Caucasus On November 3rd at 9 AM local time in Georgia, the tranquility of the Caucasus Mountains was shattered by the sound of cannon fire, marking the completion of Guizhou Highway Group's F4 tunnel on Georgia's E60 highway. As the sole transportation link connecting Georgia to the Asia-Europe transportation trunk line, the E60 Highway stretches from the Georgia-Azerbaijan border to Batumi, the second-largest city of Georgia, located on the coast of the Black Sea, linking the Poti, a port city in Georgia. It is the largest and most complex key project in the country's history and will become Georgia's highest-standard international highway. The F4 section of E60 Highway was constructed by Guizhou Highway Group. "F4 section was hard from engineering point of view. The Guizhou construction team used specific technology, which is truly admirable!" This led to the signing of a Letter of Intent for a Sister Region-Province Relationship between Georgia's Imereti region and Guizhou. Following Governor Zviad Shalamberidze's visit to Guizhou, both parties recognized the vast potential for cooperation. One road connects every route. Tunnels break through barriers and bridge hearts. Guizhou's transportation and construction enterprises, acting as builders of "Bridge Museum", are actively integrating into the international market, contributing the "Chinese solution" to global road and bridge construction. China-Laos Railway: Journey of Youths and Dreams Taking a train to travel Laos has become trending! The China-Laos Railway, with a total length of 1035 kilometers, is bustling with carrying passengers and cargo. it is a key project that aligns China's Belt and Road Initiative with Laos' strategy to transform from a land-locked country to a land-linked country. Since its opening, this "golden corridor" has continuously facilitated the development along the route. "I've had a dream of working on the railway since I was a child. When I heard about the construction of the China-Laos Railway, I chose to study in China." said Phonephimon MONECHANDY, a Laotian girl studying in Guizhou. She learned rail operation, passenger services, and railway management. After the opening the China-Laos Railway, she became one of the first batch of high-speed rail talents to be employed, serving as a locomotive repair at the Vientiane engine workshop. In 2016, the China-ASEAN Rail Transportation Education and Training Alliance was established in Guiyang, Guizhou, following the 9th China-ASEAN Education Exchange Week. This laid the foundation for paired cooperation in vocational education between the two sides through the China-ASEAN Vocational Education Flagship Program. Guizhou's universities have developed an international curriculum and teaching standards, nurturing talents for Belt and Road projects and partner countries. Laotian youths like Phonephimon are pursuing their dreams in Guizhou, blossoming with youth along this golden route. Chinese Liquor: Cultural Ambassador between China and Thailand In the bustling and vibrant Chinatown of western Bangkok, Thailand, the night begins with a glass of sauce-flavor Moutai liquor. "This taste has never changed!" It has been 47 years since Mr. Yang Fan, the Chairman of Golden Star International Logistics Co., Ltd, bought his first bottle of Moutai liquor from a grocery store in Chinatown. In 1953, Moutai officially entered the international market, becoming a pioneer of Chinese products go overseas. Thailand was the first destination for Moutai's exports. "Chinatown is rich in Chinese culture in Bangkok, and Moutai, as one of China's most famous liquors, must have a presence here." As a well-known wine connoisseur in Thailand, Mr. Piyapong Karnchanatanon, CEO of Siam Dragon (Asia-pacific) Co., Ltd chose to be a distributor of Moutai liquor, valuing not only its market value as a liquor but also its cultural significance. From local Chinese recognition to a prominent position in Thailand's liquor market, this bottle of Chinese fine liquor, with its distinct Chishui River flavor from Guizhou, has pursued shared cultural "beauty" worldwide.
