Apical, IDH sign partnership for the Sustainable Living Village Programme in Aceh Singkil

ACEH SINGKIL, Indonesia, Feb. 10, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Apical, a leading global vegetable oil processor with an expanding global footprint, together with non-profit organisation, IDH the Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH), has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for promoting the Production, Protection, and Inclusion (PPI) Compact in the Aceh Singkil District. The PPI Compact targets will be achieved mainly through the implementation of one of Apical's key programmes, the Sustainable Living Village (SLV) Programme. Apical is part of Royal Golden Eagle or RGE, a global group of resource-based manufacturing companies founded by Sukanto Tanoto. The SLV Programme is a stakeholder-inclusive programme that nurtures sustainable livelihood models through collaboration with partners, communities, and villagers, with an aim to improve community resilience and livelihood sustainability. The SLV Programme will implement activities contributing to the PPI Compact, such as conducting a comprehensive baseline study on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues to identify threats and opportunities for village-to-landscape level intervention; mapping of stakeholders' plots on the field and identifying High Conservation Value and High Carbon Stock areas; as well as facilitating the incubation of the business case for SLV financing to be feasible and bankable. The MoU represents a mutual commitment to drive positive social impact for the community and environment, and marks the beginning of a three-year partnership. The MoU was signed by the Program Director of IDH, Nassat Idris and the Director of Sustainability at Apical Group, Bremen Yong Kin Kong. The signing of the MoU was witnessed by the District Secretary of Aceh Singkil, Drs Azmi MAP and Head of the Planning Agency of Aceh Singkil, Ahmad Rivai S.H. Aceh Singkil plays a crucial role in protecting the Leuser Ecosystem, consisting of 2.6 million hectares of tropical forest and home to various Sumatran animal species such as the orang utan, rhinocerous, Sumatra tiger, and the elephant. In Singkil, rapid illegal land conversion for oil palm plantations poses a challenge to this vital ecosystem's sustainability. "The Government of Aceh Singkil welcomes and appreciates all parties, IDH, Apical and the communities, that have initiated and are actively involved in the SLV programme. We hope that the SLV Programme will help to elevate positive socio-economic welfare for all," explained Mr Rivai. In February 2022, centred on creating positive social, environmental and business impact, Apical launched its sustainability roadmap, Apical2030. Under the fourth strategic pillar of Apical2030, Inclusive Progress, the SLV programme aims to nurture communities by empowering livelihoods. The SLV programme strives to alleviate poverty,  as well as uplift and nurture communities by fostering inclusion and enhancing livelihoods, while ensuring environmental sustainability. Tailored initiatives suited to different communities will be developed with the aim of enhancing capacity building and empowering the community by collaborating with local partners, such as Yayasan Ekosistem Lestari and Forum Konservasi Leuser. "We are grateful to be given this opportunity to collaborate with IDH and the communities to implement custom-made programmes that are suited to the locals' specific needs. We understand that different communities have different concerns and that CSR programmes are not one-size-fits-all. With the SLV, we hope that we are able to alleviate poverty, as well as enhance and nurture the community's livelihoods by bridging knowledge gaps and driving capacity building," said Mr Yong. IDH and Apical have a mutual understanding to develop a co-funding partnership to promote the PPI Compact with the SLV programme as the main pillar. The Compact, which has been implemented in Aceh Tamiang, proves to be an effective model that is scalable in supporting the Aceh Province's initiative to promote sustainable palm oil production in twelve sourcing districts within Aceh. "Efforts to ensure environmental sustainability, and social and economic equity are vital in fostering positive long-term changes that will improve the environment and elevate income levels. We look forward to working with Apical as part of a coalition in promoting sustainable palm oil with part of the focus on smallholder inclusion. This pilot will be extended to contribute towards provincial-level targets on sustainable palm oil," added Mr Idris. The SLV programme is focused on nurturing communities through empowering livelihoods by creating positive environmental impact, bridging knowledge gaps and generating socio-economic opportunities to reduce inequality gaps in society. "We are planning to roll-out the tailor-made programme under the SLV initiative in several Aceh communities by Q2 2023, with a goal of supporting 30 villages through the programme by 2030," added Mr Yong. APRIL Signs Partnership to Launch Community Conservation Programme in Riau, Indonesia

PANGKALAN KERINCI, Indonesia, Feb. 1, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading sustainable fibre and product producer Asia Pacific Resources International Limited ("APRIL") has signed a memorandum of understanding ("MOU") with local community partners in Riau province, in Sumatra, Indonesia, to help set up a community-based conservation initiative which will support the protection of more than 30,000 hectares of forest areas. APRIL is a member of the Singapore-headquartered Royal Golden Eagle ("RGE") group of companies founded by Sukanto Tanoto. The partnership is part of APRIL's recently launched community conservation programme, which has received support from local and provincial Government authorities in Riau, and will contribute to the Indonesian Government's climate and biodiversity protection goals. Under the terms of the MOU, APRIL – through its operating arm, PT. Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper ("PT. RAPP") – will roll out the Community Conservation and Sustainable Livelihoods Programme on a pilot basis in five villages in Riau. The five villages are Kelurahan Teluk Meranti, Pulau Muda, Kelurahan Pelalawan, Dayun and Penyengat. The new programme will help ensure the conservation of remaining natural forest within these community areas. The other parties to the newly signed agreement include the Riau Environment and Forestry Service and the Tasik Besar Serkap Forest Management Unit, both of which are state bodies, and the community-centred Teluk Meranti Forest Conservation Institute. The new programme includes a series of community-based activities that will build the capabilities of communities as forest conservation partners. The programme has been set up as a concrete step to support the Indonesian Forestry and Land Use ("FOLU") Net Sink 2030 plan and the goals of the Riau Hijau ("Green Riau") initiative. Indonesia's FOLU Net Sink 2030 plan will drive the Government's goals for the forestry and land use sector to become a net sink (climate positive) by more than 140 million tons of CO2 by the end of this decade, through reducing emissions from forest degradation and peatlands. At the signing of the MOU, the Governor of Riau, (Gubri) Syamsuar, acknowledged the importance of the Programme and the collaboration between the different groups of stakeholders – including provincial and district Governments, the communities, and the NGO and private sectors – to bring it to fruition. "This MOU will support the national policy on reducing GHG emissions and will help improve forest and peat ecosystem sustainability, while also improving the socio-economic wellbeing of the community. In Riau, this will help our efforts to cut emissions and adapt to climate impacts as part of the country's National Determined Contribution (NDC). It is also a follow up action to the Government's Low Carbon Development initiatives," he said. Craig Tribolet, Head of Sustainability Operations, APRIL Group, said: "The goal of this Programme is to help protect forested landscapes and biodiversity in community areas. This is in support of local and national Government conservation and climate targets, and is aligned with our own sustainability commitments." The new programme is being supported by independent NGO Earthworm, which is advising on a number of technical issues relating to the participating communities. The partnership with the communities is part of APRIL's 2030 commitment to champion conservation in production-protection landscapes. The programme is also aligned with APRIL's commitments in its Sustainable Forest Management Policy 2.0, which highlights the importance of a landscape approach to the conservation of forest and peatland areas, while also incorporating other important environmental and social values. About APRIL APRIL is a leading producer of fibre, pulp and paper with plantations and manufacturing operations in Riau Province, Indonesia. We are committed to sustainability in our business and in the broader landscapes where we operate. Under our production-protection model, we adopted a unique 1- for-1 goal where we aim to conserve one hectare of forest for every hectare of plantation, and currently conserve and restore approximately 364,996 hectares of forests, including the largest peatland restoration project in Indonesia. ACE Biotek Achieves Spark Smart Patient Anesthesia Recording System Milestone and Displays the Product in the 23th NHQA Ceremony

Taiwan has cultivated National Healthcare Quality Award (NHQA) in the medical field for 20 years. It’s the most authoritative medical quality competition. The main goal is to build an excellent industry model. On January 12th, Chang Yung-Fa Foundation holds the award ceremony, and hundreds of hospitals join this event. ACE Biotek receives a special invitation to display Spark smart patient anesthesia recording system for guests.    ACE Group Creates Multidisciplinary Performance-From Wireless Communication to Medical ACE Group has possessed wireless communication, IoT software, and hardware integration for 20 years. Since 2014, the company has been committed to the medical industry specializing in early diagnosis of precision medicine technology inventions. Combing with Uniiform digital handwriting system and Data Stream (DS), it successfully develops many data upload and integral methods for Anesthesiology (Spark), Ophthalmology (Eagle Park 100), and Dentistry departments. ACE Biotek builds MOU relationships with many representative hospitals to navigate the AI smart hospital and Terahertz (THz) applications.    Patient Data Digitization for Anesthesiology Demonstration Site Users like Shin Kong Hospital, Fu Jen Hospital, Cheng Hsin Hospital, Armed Forces Hospital Gangshan Branch, and Taichung Veterans Hospital implement Spark. They provide recognition for Spark. Generally, the medical staffs write the medical record periodically. However, under the complicated circumstances in the operation room, they need to put effort into patient care and data accuracy. Human error prevention is an essential and challenging issue. Instead of a paper record, Spark digitizes the form by iPad and combines Apple Pencil to reach data input. Gateway (DS-100A) can retrieve patient information from multi-equipment, for instance, patient monitor and anesthesia machine. In addition to work efficiency and healthcare quality enhancement, Spark is suitable for big data analysis based on the regular recording. From the perspective of user experience, the interface is user-friendly.     Vice president Ching-Te Lai and other hospital directors join the event and give a positive review. Notably, the total solution can be the benchmark of smart medical development. Digital healthcare will be the future market trend since 2023 begins. ACE Biotek hopes to achieve such transformation through multidisciplinary cooperation based on R&D resources.
