CIIE promotion adds confidence among companies in Hong Kong

SHANGHAI, Aug. 4, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- The warm ambience at the first promotional event of the sixth China International Import Expo was unforgettable, said several participants, adding that they listened carefully, discussed and interacted, and were loath to leave. Including the event held in Hong Kong on March 8, the sixth CIIE, to be held from Nov 5-10, has organized promotions in more than 30 countries and regions against the backdrop of the world economy's difficult recovery. After the Hong Kong event, more than 50 exhibitors from two exhibition groups organized by the city's Trade Development Council confirmed participation in the sixth CIIE. Entrepreneurs in Hong Kong said that they have found the CIIE values and supports Hong Kong enterprises' development in the mainland and makes them more confident to develop there. "Stronger confidence" has become a consensus among companies that attended the Hong Kong promotion and they are looking forward to the sixth CIIE. There is also an important opportunity for young scientific and technological innovation enterprises in Hong Kong to integrate into the overall situation of national development with the help of the CIIE platform. Kenneth Lee, co-founder of You Origin, said: "I distinctly felt the 'high standard' of the CIIE last year when I participated for the first time. "Compared with other domestic and foreign exhibitions I have attended, the CIIE enjoys a grander scene, more exquisite venue design, more globalized exhibitors and more professional audiences." Through the CIIE, the startup in the food industry quickly opened the Chinese mainland's market, attracted many partners, and obtained confidence in development. As an agent for a coconut flower nectar product, the company began to sell products via cross-border e-commerce after its exhibition at the fifth CIIE. The CIIE's global promotions are also of "high standard" and "significance", according to Lee. After the event in Hong Kong, many professionals from the media, investment institutions and government agencies exchanged contact information with him. Several small and medium-sized businesses that had hesitated about participating in the CIIE attended the promotion and consulted Lee afterward. Different from You Origin, Fung Group is an "old friend" of the CIIE. As a century-old Hong Kong company, it has attended the CIIE for five consecutive years. Stephen Fung, the group's China president, said: "The CIIE is a large stage for China to deepen opening-up and share chances with the world and also a big stage for us to exhibit the newest business fruits and innovation practice." The group has won business and sealed cooperation deals in the smart supply chain and new retail fields via the CIIE in the past five years. "Stronger confidence" was also Fung's first feeling after he attended the promotion. Many corporate representatives from the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong exchanged their insights into industries and development focus in China, Fung said. He adding that they looked for potential partners at the event and laid a good foundation for later cooperation at the CIIE. Participation in the promotion was also fruitful for Fung Group. The CIIE's global promotion made Fung feel that the CIIE would have a larger circle of friends, he said. The Hong Kong Trade Development Council has organized the CIIE Hong Kong pavilion for five years. It has witnessed companies from the special administrative region take advantage of the CIIE to grow. Stephen Liang, assistant executive director at the council, said it would assist more Hong Kong companies in seizing new development opportunities via the CIIE. Commercial successes of product debuts a growing trend at the CIIE

SHANGHAI, July 21, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- For five consecutive years the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai has celebrated its status as the first national expo themed on imports, creating an ever-growing number of beneficial spillovers – including transforming exhibited items into popular commodities. Booth of Amorepacific at the fifth China International Import Expo (CIIE) That process has been continuously accelerating, positioning the CIIE as the preferred showcase for debuting hundreds of new global products and the first choice for unveiling cutting-edge technologies and innovative services. Infusion into the Chinese market of such international staples as Spanish ham, French wine and milk from New Zealand has accelerated the transformation and upgrading of the domestic consumption structure, while high-grade products like "flying" cars, coin-sized cardiac pacemakers and robots that can play table tennis effectively promote expansion of the domestic industrial chain. Among exhibitors that have participated in the past five editions of the CIIE, Amorepacific is a global cosmetics company that has been in business for more than 70 years. Addressing Amorepacific's loyalty to the CIIE, Mike Hwang, president of Amorepacific China said: "The platform effect of the CIIE is unusual when compared with other expos. It rewards us with huge exposure and provides an excellent opportunity for carefully scrutinizing consumers. Many of our exhibits have quickly entered the Chinese market and become beloved commodities by Chinese consumers." Thanks to the CIIE, Amorepacific has showcased its strong research and development capabilities and innovative achievements to a global audience and reaped international acclaim. At the fifth edition of the CIIE, which happened to coincide with Amorepacific's 30th anniversary of entering the Chinese market, the company spotlighted seven brands, more than 500 exhibits and more than 20 new product debuts. Because the CIIE caters to exhibitors and buyers from a wide range of age groups, incomes and territories, it serves as "a comprehensive expo held professionally," providing companies the opportunity to mine fresh new markets. At last year's expo Amorepacific's 3D printing mask technology, Hera skintone finder, smart mirror, mind-linked bathbot proved to be big hits, and its researchers received a lot of valuable feedback through communication with visitors. Other repeat exhibitors have experienced similar success. Over the past five editions of the CIIE, L'Oréal has showcased 16 new international brands and hundreds of debuts, while Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. has had nine innovative products approved and Germany's Karcher launched a municipal sanitation solution specially customized for the Chinese market. As well, British high-end electrical appliance enterprise IAM put forward an air purifier with dealdehyde sterilization and degerming functionality, the Chinese market share of which occupies first place among high-end purifiers costing 4000 yuan ($558) and above. The sixth edition of the CIIE will take place in Shanghai from Nov. 5-10 this year, enabling companies like Amorepacific and IAM to build on their success and continue to make remarkable inroads in both the Chinese and international marketplaces. IBM says AI is the only way to help organizations achieve more concrete sustainability targets

KUALA LUMPUR, June 21, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- ASEAN is one of the most vulnerable regions to climate change, with six of its countries — Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and also Vietnam — among those that have suffered the greatest fatalities and economic losses because of climate-related disasters. Despite that, research has shown that the mitigation efforts by ASEAN countries have been insufficient to combat climate change. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) predicts that climate change could decrease Southeast Asia's overall GDP by over 11%. Agnes Heftberger, General Manager and Technology Leader, IBM ASEANZK At a recent regional "Road to COP 28: ASEAN ESG in Action – Planet, Profit and Purpose" media roundtable, Agnes Heftberger, General Manager and Technology Leader, IBM ASEANZK, shared that "nearly half of CEOs globally and in ASEAN said sustainability was one of their highest priorities, but lack of insights from data is a top obstacle to achieving sustainability objectives." ESG goals are meaningless if they aren't tied to real performance data7 in 10 CEOs today see ESG as a revenue driver rather than a cost center, according to Arun Biswas, Managing Partner, Strategic Sales & Sustainability Consulting, IBM Asia Pacific. The survey, however, found that while 95% of organizations have developed ESG propositions, only 10% have made significant progress toward their goals. CEOs cited a lack of insights from data as a top obstacle to achieving their sustainability objectives. "At the same time the trust that customers have in ESG data that is disclosed by companies is going down quite sharply," added Arun. Agnes highlighted that data is at the heart of solving sustainability challenges and "AI is the only way to process enormous amount of data and help organizations achieve more concrete sustainability targets." Why? AI allows companies to collect and analyze the vast amounts of sustainability data scattered across their business while automating feedback between operational endpoints and corporate sustainability initiatives more easily. This is echoed by two-thirds of more than 7,500 global IT leaders surveyed who said their company is currently or planning to apply AI to address sustainability goals in the near future - in particular, for managing the complexity of data and reporting. How AI is playing a key role in bridging ESG and sustainability gap todayGlobally, IBM is collaborating with NASA on new geospatial foundation model, which can potentially help provide information for estimating climate-related risks to crops, buildings, and other infrastructure, valuing and monitoring forests for carbon-offset programs, and develop predictive models to help enterprises create strategies to mitigate and adapt to climate change. As oceans are home to up to 80% of all life in the world, generate 50% of the oxygen we need and absorb 25% of all carbon dioxide emissions, The Reef Company and IBM Consulting have recently joined force to restore and revitalize the marine ecosystem before 90% of all coral reefs are extinct by 2050. "Our big belief at IBM is that we need to use AI to go about achieving sustainability goals, but we are only going to achieve sustainability objectives as organisations if we look at the whole 360-degree of an organisation not just one point of its setup," added Agnes. For example, organizations will be required to consolidate more than 500 data types to supports internationally recognized ESG reporting frameworks, to consistently deliver transparent, verifiable, financial-grade information and report out on progress. A tool like IBM Envizi is required to assess progress towards sustainability benchmarks and help reduce the environmental impact of daily business operations. Predicting the next failure can help extend the life and improve the efficiency of physical assets such as building, machinery and critical infrastructure, which reduces waste and additional resources. Through IBM Maximo intelligent asset management technology, large companies across business sectors have seen 43% less downtime per year. How organizations in our region are progressing their sustainability agendaThree of the biggest energy companies in Asia — in peninsular and east Malaysia and in Indonesia — are increasing the reliability of their power generation and distribution systems with AI-powered enterprise asset management (EAM) technology. The advanced analytic tools and IoT data today improve operational availability, extend asset lifecycles and optimize their performance, as part of the journey to reach their sustainability goals. A real estate investment trust Growthpoint Properties Australia recognized the significance of driving sustainability through ESG transparency and the need to give investors and stakeholders the most reliable and relevant information regarding our sustainability performance. With its framework spans four themes—environment, economic, people and governance and 11 focus areas linked to 20 measurable targets, AI today helps Growthpoint automatically identify data anomalies and gaps, saving a lot of time and effort in having to manually look for errors and issues in hundreds of invoices we get every month. IBM Envizi tool also halves the time it takes to complete performance data uploading for the GRESB survey. COP28 will be a milestone moment when ASEAN and the world will take stock of its progress on the Paris Agreement. We only have another seven years to meet the 2030 goal, and leaders are searching for specific ways to achieve more concrete sustainability targets, extend their reach, and operationalize their sustainability projects. True stories of Overseas Filipinos shine in global spotlight, in time for PH Independence Day

Filipino caregivers, barista featured in LA, New York, UK, and Dubai NEW YORK, June 10, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- True stories of successful Overseas Filipinos are making the rounds globally, in time for Independence Day in the Philippines. Videos featuring Charmaine "Charm" Espinoza, a Filipina caregiver in the United Kingdom and Dan Johnson "DJ" Noblesa, a Filipino barista in Italy, can be viewed in Times Square in New York, and LA billboards in Inglewood, Los Angeles, California from June 12 to June 13. The videos are part of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Creative Communications (OPACC)'s new country branding campaign 'We Give the World Our Best – The Philippines, featuring the true stories of Overseas Filipinos giving their best, wherever they are in the world. OFWs in the global spotlight Charm and DJ's videos had also earlier appeared in New York Times Square and Dubai's La Mer City Walk, two of the most prominent and modern cities in the world. UK nurse May Parsons, meanwhile, was the face of the bus ad shown in London on no less than the day of King Charles III's coronation. May was the first nurse to have administered the COVID-19 vaccine in the United Kingdom, which was very much recognized by the UK government. OPACC says the London bus ad had been rolled out during the momentous occasion to draw in the huge crowds, and communicate the inspiring message that Filipinos give their best wherever they are and in whatever they do. "At its core, the project intends to let the whole world know how good, compassionate, and competent Filipinos are. Filipinos bring their 'best' through daily actions that touch lives all over the world," says OPACC Sec. Paul Soriano. A Pinoy's unique values In their videos, both Charm and May were both lauded by their foreign patients for their untiring and dedicated service, manifesting how they showed true care, or the malasakit, maasikaso and maalaga values that comes naturally from every Filipino. "Nursing is not the easiest job in the world, in fact, it's emotionally draining. I truly believe in the things that I do, because of where I come from, our resilience, our dedication… I gave my best, and my heart, I am the Philippines," May says in the video, on how she performs her daily routine of caring for the sick in the UK. Charm, on the other hand, is seen in the video patiently attending to an elderly lady, who gradually changed her demeanor because of Charm's untiring and caring attitude. In the video, while the song "Lean on Me" was playing, Charm said: "I do what's right, I give my best, I keep caring." In the next clip, Charm is introduced by her elderly patient to the family as "My friend, from the Philippines," and her son, appreciatively looking at Charm, whispered a warm thank you. The video ended with Charm proudly saying: "I am Charm, I am the Philippines," In the video in Italy, the owner of a coffee shop said that "for coffee-loving people, Italy is where they should go. And in their shop, they honor their barista, not their coffee machines." The owner added while showing how their coffee were made and brewed: "Because coffee is like life, it's all about how you make it; when your barista is the best, you can taste the love in every cup, our barista is the best, bravo Filipino!." The video ended with DJ, the Filipino barista saying: "I am DJ, I am the Philippines." Proud Pinoys at their best The new videos demonstrate how OFWs portray that they are not mere peons in the country that host them, but true ambassadors of the country they call home. Through their selfless attitude of thinking first of the welfare of their patients/clients, they are able to develop personal connections and create a strong bond between cultures and societies. This leads to greater understanding and appreciation of the Philippines and its people. The videos are now getting positive raves from the netizens. A nurse from a government hospital in Quezon City who has seen the video of May and Charm said: "The video is impressive, sana marami pang similar video ang maipalabas para maipakita kung paano mag-care ang Pinoy sa ano mang lahi sa mundo." A barista of a small coffee shop in Manila who has also seen the 1-minute video of DJ commented: "Iba talaga ang pinoy pagdating sa gawaan ng kape, like what the song of the late Tina Turner said – we are "Simply the Best. I'm proud of DJ and how he is bringing honor to our country." These success stories are featured in the We Give the World our Best YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/@wegivetheworldourbestph .
