NINH BINH, Vietnam, Nov. 6, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Global animal welfare organisation FOUR PAWS rescued a female Asiatic black bear named Na from private keeping in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam on 17 October. After a two-day journey she has safely arrived at her new home, BEAR SANCTUARY Ninh Binh, run by FOUR PAWS. Na was kept in a the cage of a family house for 20 years. Before her last companion died a few months ago, Na lived in the room with five other bears.Head of Enabling Units, Hien Tran Thi Thanh commented: "We are grateful for the exceptional cooperation with the FPD and bear farmer to enable an expedited transfer, once the relevant paperwork was complete. Through a strong working relationship, we share our urgency to ensure bears are voluntarily handed over, at the earliest opportunity, into our species-appropriate environment at BEAR SANCTUARY Ninh Binh." FOUR PAWS Viet Head of Enabling Units, Hien Tran Thi Thanh pictured with HCMC FPD. Among other health issues, her left eye will potentially have to be removed, due to suspected glaucoma. Following extensive collaboration, with the Forest Protection Department and bear farmer, FOUR PAWS finalised the requisite paperwork to rescue Bear Na, on 17 October. A voluntarily transfer was subsequently performed, in the presence of all parties."Working collaboratively with bear owners to voluntarily transfer their bears to a species-appropriate sanctuary is a challenge we readily accept. It is necessary to suppress assumptions of each other and focus on building mutual understanding and trust. If we can help them see what they haven't seen in 20+ years— a better way to treat animals— then, together, we can quickly secure a brighter future for over 200 remaining farm bears. The journey does not begin with the rescue request of bears, it begins with the shift in the minds of farmers when they realize they can fix what they have done, even if it is 20 years later. We remain thankful to all the farmers who have changed their minds and decided to give the bears a better life," says Lan Anh Ta, Wild Animal Rescue & Advocacy Project Manager Vietnam at FOUR PAWS.

CADEN TROY: 27yr old Firefighter/Paramedic in America. "I have had a love for firefighting ever since I was a kid visiting my dad at the station he worked at. The brotherhood and camaraderie was always something I strived for but never fully understood until I joined the fire service 6 years ago. That family atmosphere is exactly what I found when I was asked to be a part of the 2024 Australian Firefighters Calendar. I was able to firsthand see the amazing people, animals, and unique environment that Australia has to offer. Most importantly I had the opportunity to interact with the numerous charities and foundations that the calendar benefits and learn of the importance of conservation efforts in order to protect our wildlife and environment. We live on one shared planet and this is a message I am more than happy to take back to the States and share with my audience. And oh yeah, I almost forgot…ripped Firefighters with adorable animals. I think people might enjoy that as well." Caden Troy - St. Lucie County Fire District, United States of America JACOB HACKER: 30yr old Firefighter from America. American firefighter, paramedic, actor and model born and raised in rural Ohio. One of my goals was before the age of 30 I wanted to be in the Australian Firefighters Calendar. When I was younger in my fire and medic career it began as a joke because I felt like I could never be physically capable or fit enough to be one of those men you see in the calendar. After 10 years of hardwork and dedication I reached out to the Australian Firefighters Calendar, to my surprise they were impressed by my journey and wanted me to partake in their calendar. This was a dream come true and one of the greatest honours of my life to be an American featured into an Australian Firefighters calendar for a good cause. Jacob Hacker - Willard Fire and Rescue Ohio, United States of America STEVEN GIANNOPOLOUS: 30yr old firefighter from Canada. Firefighting was my dream as a little boy. I remember playing with all my little fire truck toys pretending to respond to emergencies and being fascinated every time I saw a real-life fire truck ripping to calls. As I grew up, I realised that it's not superheroes that are doing this job but actual people. From That moment on I knew firefighting was what I wanted to do! I applied and went through all the rigorous tests and had the opportunity to become a firefighter at a really young age. It's been 9 years now and I haven't looked back. One of the most dynamic and demanding jobs but also the most rewarding being able to serve your community and help people on the worst days of their lives" Steven Gionappilous - Ottawa Fire Service, Canada US CHARITY PROJECT To repay the support our U.S. fans have shown, the Australian Firefighters Calendar will continue to support U.S. charities for the third year in row. The Rescue Rebuild program is a shelter renovation program of Greater Good Charities. This year the Florida Wildlife Project in Fort Lauderdale will receive support to rebuild their Tortoise Rehab enclosure. As with all of our wildlife projects, the goal of these projects is to give the wildlife facilities the ability to better care for their animals and to increase their lifesaving capabilities. Fostering the rehabilitation of the tortoise helps to protect a keystone species and the many other species that benefit from their survival. Many other animals use the old tortoise burrows for their own survival, so there are many benefits to preserving the gopher tortoise. "Greater Good Charities is hugely grateful for the continued support from the Australian Firefighters Calendar! Funds raised from the calendar sales will support a renovation at a wildlife rehabilitation facility by our Rescue Rebuild program this November. Thanks to this generous donation, this facility will be able to care for more animals and protect endangered species that are vital to our ecosystem." TAIPEI, Oct. 20, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Munchee, a brand owned by Furtime Pet Food CO., LTD, proudly introduces its ecological-sustainable Silkworm Pupae cat food, developed by a team of animal nutritionists, food scientist experts, and veterinarian consultants from the National Taiwan University and National Chung Hsing University. This marks the first collaboration with Miaoli's Research and Extension Station under the Council of Agriculture, the key ingredient in this exceptional canned food is silkworm pupae, known for its ability to inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria in animal's digestive system, resulting in a healthier diet and shinier coats. The initial fundraising on the fundraising platform ZecZec reached 630% result. Why Choose Silkworm Pupae? Silkworm pupae are rich in premium proteins, including crude protein, crude fat, and chitin. Moreover, they are a natural source of Omega-3 fatty acids, fortify blood vessels, and boost the immune systems of mammals. Through extensive research and development of functional ingredients, a physical induction technique stimulates silkworm pupae to produce antimicrobial peptides. These peptides, similar to natural antimicrobials, can easily infiltrate bacterial cells, disrupting their processes and rendering them ineffective. Testing has indicated that bacteria are reduced by 7% to 15% after cats consume the canned food. This is why Muchee functional cat food was developed, offering superior palatability and incorporating traceable chicken and milkfish essence that furkids cannot resist. Ecological Sustainability Through Silkworm Pupae Taiwan's climate is ideal for the growth of mulberry trees and silkworm farming; this has provided livelihoods for countless laborers. However, due to the replacement of the industry, the lands of mulberry trees for silkworm pupae are taken for other purposes, which also serve as the natural habitat for our endangered leopard cats. By investing in the silkworm pupae industry, we are preserving the mulberry trees and providing a non-toxic environment for leopard cats. The inclusion of silkworm pupae in the cat can not only open the opportunities for silkworm pupae market but also protect the farms and keep a non-toxic habitat. The growth of the pet supplement industry is not only about the technique of cultivation, but also the establishment of a sustainable ecosystem that benefits the industry, consumers, and animals. Munchee remains committed to developing freeze-dried kibbles and creamy puree, sourcing from eco-friendly ingredients around Taiwan, like organic salvia root in Taoyuan, functional silkworm in Miaoli, bananas in Nantou, fish scale calcium in Tainan, and last but not least shell calcium in Hualian to develop various functional supplements for cats. As a responsible brand for the earth, Munchee practices sustainable management and use of natural resources in the product development process, protecting the ecosystem in land and ensuring biodiversity, expecting to become a brand model of ecological sustainability.
CJ Foods and T&R Biofab aim to synergize their unique expertise and technologies to bring to the market innovative food products SEOUL, South Korea, Oct. 18, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- CJ Foods, a business unit of South Korea-based CJ CheilJedang, announced that it entered into a joint development agreement (JDA) with T&R Biofab to develop alternative meat using 3D bioprinting technology. T&R Biofab is a med-tech company that develops artificial tissues using its world-class technology in the field of regenerative medicine based on 3D bioprinting. Through this collaboration, the two innovative Korean companies will leverage synergies between the food industry and the 3D printing medical field to elevate new plant-based alternative protein products up to consumers' expectations on taste, texture, appearance, and nutrition. Plant-based alternative protein food products beyond the limitations of today's offerings are seen as new growth engines for both companies. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, the plant-based food market is estimated to be worth USD 162 billion by 2030, showing a rapid growth from USD 24.9 billion in 2020. Plant-based food has emerged as a major trend, extending beyond concerns about animal welfare to be recognized for its positive impact on health, nutrition, and environmental. Nevertheless, one challenge has persisted – achieving the authentic texture and mouthfeel of animal-based food. "At CJ Foods, we recognize that breakthrough innovation happens at the interface of distinctly different proficiencies and industries," stated Dr. Florian Viton, Senior Vice President, Strategic Innovation at CJ Foods. "We see our partnership with T&R Biofab as a unique opportunity to create alternative protein offerings that truly surpass the limitations hindering today's plant-based products. This exciting collaboration is part of CJ Food's broader strategy to accelerate our pace of innovation and seed new growth engines in support of CJ Food's global ambitions." "As global leaders and public figures increasingly draw attention to the alternative protein food sector, particularly the potential within 3D printed food, it is imperative to underscore that this domain seldom unites genuine food industry experts with accomplished printing specialists," commented Dr. Paulo Marinho, Head of Scientific Strategy of T&R Biofab. "This partnership stands as a unique instance where these two domains converge and collaborate, each pioneering its own sphere to achieve a shared and essential solution." CJ Foods remains committed to developing and investing technologies aimed at securing sustainable food for the future. Notably, it launched a brand specializing in plant-based foods and offers plant-based Mandu products in both overseas and Korean markets. SYDNEY, Oct. 16, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Australian agtech company Agronomeye, which develops interactive 3D digital twins of farms, has been awarded a prestigious Accelerating Commercialisation grant under the AusIndustry Entrepreneurs' Programme. The $750,000 grant, which will be matched by Agronomeye, will support the business to ramp up work on its key product, AgTwin™, believed to be agriculture's first digital twin. Delivering actionable and marketable insights at the farm scale, AgTwin™ enables landowners to make decisions that drive profitability, sustainability and resilience across the landscape. Importantly, it also enables verifiable reporting to meet the needs of financiers, insurers, customers and supply chain partners. CEO and co-founder Stu Adam says the technology is transforming the way landholders make on-farm decisions, and the grant funding will enable the business to scale more rapidly and develop key capabilities, including a companion app to help capture more data about the farm more often to enrich the digital twin. "We are very proud to have been awarded this grant, not only because of what it will unlock for us as a business, but because we know that this programme has always been incredibly rigorous. It's a testament to the potential of the work we are doing and the dedication of our team, and a real vote of confidence." The funding will be used to support the development of fit-for-purpose reporting functionality as AgTwin™ furthers its commercial applications. To make the most of the insights AgTwin™ can generate, it must be able to meet the reporting needs of farmers and those who will need information out of the system, right across the supply chain. "For some, that might be a simple PDF, for others it will be a dynamic integration with their supply chain partners This funding will enable us to invest in the solutions that will make reporting simple and valuable to key stakeholders. It's an important and big step towards full commercialisation," Stu says. He says government funding programs play an important role in supporting innovation in agriculture. "This kind of support is critical for businesses like ours which are addressing important needs in essential sectors. High value data insights bring much needed integrity and transparency to this evolving part of agriculture, and we are really excited to be helping address that challenge." "We're excited to have some major projects underway, including a recently announced partnership with RegenCo, which is using AgTwin™ to provide transparency and integrity for regulators, farmers and investors in the carbon market. It's an exciting time for us and the industry." About Agronomeye www.agronomeye.com.au Agronomeye is an Australian agtech company, advancing the use of digital twins in agriculture. Using highly-detailed imaging technology combined with advanced data modelling, the goal is to enable farmers, land managers and their many stakeholders to make informed, risk-free decisions that are both nature-positive and profitable. Agronomeye's proprietary platform, AgTwin™, delivers on-farm insights that are actionable and marketable across the spectrum of an ag business, including erosion control, carbon farming, biodiversity, animal welfare and sustainable land management. This rich and dynamic stack of data offers integrity and transparency to a supply chain that is starved of meaningful and reliable sustainability metrics at the farm scale. Agronomeye, co-founded by Stu Adam and Tim Howell in 2015, collaborates with major organisations including Microsoft and CSIRO. In addition to being awarded an Accelerated Commercialisation Grant, Agronomeye was a finalist in KPMG's Nature Positive Challenge 2022.
