SINGAPORE, Aug. 27, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Constellar and MY Exhibition Co., Ltd are pleased to announce a strategic partnership to boost the agri-food tech and aquaculture sectors in Singapore and Taiwan region. This collaboration will contribute to the broader goal of leveraging technology to advance Asia's agriculture industry, fostering innovation, sustainability, and economic growth. Singapore currently has the largest agrifood tech ecosystem in Southeast Asia, with over 122 companies, and US$1.4 billion worth of funds raised since 2013, accounting for 45 per cent of all companies and 38 per cent in funding for the region. This enables Singapore to lead innovation incubation, end-to-end testing and the adoption of agrifood and aquaculture technologies for the region. Singapore's robust shared infrastructure and innovation hubs also positions Singapore as the ideal hub in Southeast Asia for regional and international companies to fundraise and seek lab-pilot scale assistance[1]. Taiwan is renowned for its high-tech industry and research and development capabilities. By integrating these strengths into the agricultural sector, Taiwan has established a unique position as a leader in the advancement and future of agribusiness. With its exceptional contributions in IT, high-tech industries, and biotechnology research, Taiwan has earned international acclaim and a distinctive leadership role. These technological advantages are widely applied in agriculture, not only enhancing food self-sufficiency but also addressing climate and environmental challenges through advanced techniques and management practices. This approach ensures the production of market-driven, safe, reliable, sustainable, and traceable agricultural products, allowing the world's ecosystem to breathe and recover. Supported by the ASTEP[2], the growth of agritech to elevate farming practices and produce higher and better-quality yields more productively will continue to offer limitless possibilities for Singaporean and Taiwanese companies and organisations to collaborate for greater growth potential. This partnership will leverage the strengths and expertise of both event organisers to facilitate knowledge exchange, advance research and development, enable networking opportunities, as well as inspire transnational collaborations amongst their event participants. Constellar organises Agri-Food Tech Expo Asia (AFTEA), while MY Exhibition Co. Ltd organises Taiwan Smart Agriweek (TSA) and International Aquaculture and Fisheries Expo Taiwan (IAFET). "We are excited to embark on this journey with MY Exhibition," said Mr Paul Lee, Chief Executive (Markets), Constellar. "This partnership not only reinforces Constellar's vision of convening industry stakeholders but also underscores our shared commitment to advancing the agrifood tech and aquaculture sectors. By leveraging the combined strengths of both organisations, AFTEA, TSA and IAFET will serve as vital platforms enabling industry leaders to network, innovate, and accelerate the pathway towards secure, sustainable and climate-friendly agri-food systems. We welcome like-minded organisers from other markets to join us and forge a strong network of events to grow the industry and form a strong ecosystem of emerging agri-food tech players." Irene Liu, General Manager of My Exhibition Co., Ltd., shared, "This year marks the tenth anniversary of Taiwan Smart Agriweek, and the event has grown as technology plays an increasingly important role in agricultural production. We're focusing on five key sectors of the agricultural supply chain: AgriTech, Livestock & Feed Tech, Aqua & Fisheries Tech, AgriFresh, and Sustainable Agriculture Technology. The exhibition covers the entire supply chain, from seed to feed to food, showcasing advanced equipment, techniques, and solutions. In recent years, Singapore has made impressive progress in tackling food production and safety challenges, which led to the '30 by 30' food policy. Our partnership with Constellar is not just about boosting agricultural technology exchange between Singapore and Taiwan region, but also about speeding up the turnkey export of Taiwan's technology to southbound markets. This collaboration will help integrate technology and markets in Asia's agri-tech sector, supporting southbound countries in reaching their goals for food self-sufficiency and safety, while also creating new opportunities for the agri-tech ecosystem." Partnership offers new solutions in autonomous driving, mitigating recent truck driver shortages and logistics issues in Japan MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. and YOKOHAMA, Japan, Aug. 27, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Applied Intuition, Inc., a Silicon Valley-based vehicle software supplier, and Isuzu Motors Ltd., a Japan-based manufacturer of commercial vehicles, today announced a strategic partnership to accelerate Isuzu Motors Ltd.'s plan to develop and offer autonomous trucking solutions. The partnership will usher in strong economic and social impacts by optimizing commercial logistics, directly addressing recent concerns surrounding critical driver shortages. Applied Intuition and Isuzu Motors Ltd. Enter Strategic Partnership to Develop Autonomous Commercial Trucks Truck driver overwork is a major public health issue in Japan — nearly 84% of drivers face related health problems. Recent studies showed truck drivers accounted for 34.3% of overwork-related deaths. In response, the Japanese government revised its Labor Standards Law, capping annual work hours at 3,300 hours, including breaks. This has raised concerns about driver shortages in an industry already anticipating a 36% decline in drivers by 2030. Known as "The 2024 Problem," it threatens to disrupt supply chains and challenge Japan's reputation for excellent service. The partnership will expand logistics solutions and mitigate driver shortages by introducing advanced autonomous driving technology in Japan. In April 2024, Isuzu Motors Ltd. announced its mid-term management plan called "ISUZU Transformation - Growth to 2030 (IX)," with a goal of establishing automated driving solutions as a new business pillar. Applied Intuition's technology is designed and developed with its customers' needs in mind, enabling automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to build safe and intelligent autonomous systems, ensuring they have the necessary solutions for accelerated autonomy development, validation, and deployment. "Applied Intuition is in the business of enabling our OEM customers to deploy next-generation technology in their vehicles. In this case, we're advancing commercial trucking autonomy with Isuzu," said Qasar Younis, co-founder and CEO of Applied Intuition. "What's different about Applied Intuition versus other companies in our ecosystem is we don't succeed if our customers don't succeed. Because of that, we look forward to helping one of the largest truck OEMs in the world simultaneously address needs in commercial trucking and develop in-house capabilities." "Working with Applied Intuition will greatly advance autonomous driving technology development and provide a strong foundation for Isuzu's plan to launch an autonomous trucking business," said Shinsuke Minami, representative director, president and COO of Isuzu Motors Ltd. "This strategic partnership will serve as a strong driving force for our goal to create and offer solutions to challenges faced by our customers and society as a whole." Ms. Diane Wong, Under Secretary for Environment and Ecology of the HKSAR Government, kick-started the event as the Guest of Honour. Mr. Anthony Li, Deputy Secretary for Environment and Ecology (Food) of the HKSAR Government, Hon. Peter Shiu, Legislative Councilor (Wholesale and Retail) were also on-site as Award Presenters to give out recognitions to 31 outstanding "Quality Food Scheme" companies, including the new "Quality Food Scheme ESG" launched this year. (Front row lady in black dress, from left to right) Ms. Anna Lin, Chief Executive of GS1 HK; Ms. Diane Wong, Under Secretary for Environment and Ecology of the HKSAR Government; Mr. Keith Wu, Chairman of GS1 HK’s Food and Beverage Industry Advisory Board; Ms. Betty Leung, GS1 HK Director of the Board and Vice-chairman of the GS1 HK Food and Beverage Industry Advisory Board, kick-started the GS1 HK Food Safety Forum 2024 with other distinguished guests. Environmental Protection Department recorded that some 3,300 tonnes of food waste, about 30% of municipal solid waste, are disposed at landfills each day, which is not sustainable and is environmentally undesirable as it depletes the limited landfill space[1]. Themed "Rethinking our Future: Where Food Safety and Sustainability Meet", this year's GS1 HK Food Safety Forum focus on the challenges of the local food supply chain, and the sustainable development of the food sector ecosystem. The guest of honour of the event, Ms. Diane Wong, said in the opening remarks, "Advanced technology plays an important role in food safety and sustainability. It can help preserve the environment and improve traceability throughout the food supply chain. Advanced technology can also help reduce food loss and waste by improving storage, handling, and distribution practices. We hope that the food manufacturing industry can continue to explore how the effective adoption of international standards and technologies can help address challenges in food traceability and safety, and also promote sustainable development for the food safety regime. The Government will continue to review the existing policies and measures to ensure that food safety and hygiene standards are met and consumers in Hong Kong can have access to safe and high quality food products." Building a Safe and Sustainable Food Ecosystem with Technology Mr. Keith Wu, Chairman of GS1 HK's Food and Beverage Industry Advisory Board, highlighted the importance of the sustainability of local food ecosystem in his welcome remarks, "Consumers behavior has shifted significantly, with sustainability becoming a priority in purchasing decisions. Regulations over ESG & sustainability are also becoming increasingly common worldwide, making sustainability no longer a choice, but a business imperative, just like food safety. "Traceability" & "transparency" are always the essential pillars to achieve food safety & sustainability goals. Food industry stakeholders have a shared responsibility to continuously strive towards these goals." He cited GS1 HK's "1QR", a QR code with GS1 Digital Link standard, as a good way to promote food safety and sustainability. Retailers can scan the "1QR" at check-out counter and shows the 'Best Before' or 'Sell By' dates – allowing expired foods to be rejected at checkout, and those close to expiry to be sold at a bargain – to reduce food waste. On the other hand, consumers can simply scan the "1QR" with a smart phone to access information like nutritional values, industry certifications, allergy advice, etc., and also the sustainability details such as sources of materials, carbon footprint, recycling method, helping to uplift consumers' confidence and attachment. Senior executives from Data Literacy Association, FrieslandCampina (Hong Kong) Ltd., Kerry Logistics (HK) Limited, Maxim's Caterers Ltd., Swire Coca-Cola HK, Tai Po Chun Hing Ltd., Uni-China Group and Wong & Associates Global Ltd. shared their insights at the Forum, exploring how the effective adoption of international standards and digital technologies can assist the industry in ensuring food safety and promote a sustainable future. The New "Quality Food Scheme ESG" The new "Quality Food Scheme ESG" has awarded 17 enterprises with recognition, which are assessed mainly in accordance with GS1 Global Traceability Standard (GTS), MSCI ESG Indexes[2] and United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs)[3] etc. The scheme aims to encourage businesses to not only put efforts in food traceability and safety, but also act on ESG practices. Quality Food Scheme has been evolving since 2015 that also covers "Quality Food Scheme" and "Quality Food Scheme Plus". The 2 schemes have recognised 21 companies this year. Please refer to appendix for the awardee list, and visit https://www.gs1hk.org/quality-food-scheme for details of Schemes. Second-generation TheiaVu® WD-300 system offers precision, reliability, and speed – up to 10x faster than manual product checks WESTBOROUGH, Mass., Aug. 22, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Meat and poultry processors face ongoing challenges with quality control, consistency, and labor shortages. Traditional manual inspection methods are time-consuming, subjective, and provide limited data. KPM Analytics introduces TheiaVu® WD-300, the first AI-enabled at-line vision inspection system designed specifically for meat and poultry applications. The new AI-Powered TheiaVu WD-300 includes advanced features and capabilities from previous system generations to answer specific demands from users in the meat and poultry industry. It eliminates the need for calipers and color charts to save labor and avoid subjective assessment. The at-line visual inspection reduces all these manual measurements into a single pass through a conveyor for greater precision, reliability, and speed compared to other visual inspection methods. The TheiaVu WD-300 is optimized for a wide range of meat and poultry products, including chicken portions, beef cuts, processed meats and other further breaded products such as chicken nuggets and sandwich patties. Sophisticated, Trainable Artificial Intelligence Analyzes Range of Product Features In addition to traditional rule-based vision techniques, the TheiaVu WD-300 vision inspection system leverages sophisticated artificial intelligence to analyze product attributes quickly and accurately. It can assess key quality indicators such as product thickness, fat distribution, and cook color even on breaded products, as well as measure size, shape, and detect blood spots or foreign materials. Each TheiaVu WD-300 is equipped with measuraAITM, available in measura® 4 software, which provides a simple interface that allows users to take advantage of recent developments in artificial intelligence and train their own AI models based on provided templates for their unique products. The measura® 4 software is also available in all TheiaVu models, including the TV-250 product line for the baking industry. As optional add-ons, the TheiaVu WD-300 also interfaces with an integrated weighing scale or product temperature probe to complete quality assessment needs. This comprehensive analysis provides processors greater insights into their production process, ensuring consistent quality and maximizing value. Unlike infrequent manual measurements, which are difficult to standardize, the new system offers rapid, objective analysis of multiple product attributes in a single pass. Customers participating in beta testing of the new system report significant increases in inspection speed, more consistent results, valuable data insights, and allows them to get the highest value for their products. Rapid Return on Investment The TheiaVu WD-300 vision inspection system offers a rapid return on investment. Rather than installing a vision inspection system over each processing line, a less expensive at-line system like TheiaVu WD-300 can be located on the production floor or in the quality lab and used to inspect every line. In this way, the TheiaVu WD-300 system provides a steppingstone for more automated in-line inspection in the future. KPM Analytics inline inspection systems, such as the KPM P-Series utilize the same software interface as the TheiaVu WD-300 for seamless measurement transfer to the production line. Processors can dramatically increase the amount and consistency of data collected. As labor challenges persist in the industry, company managers will appreciate the opportunity to: Ensure compliance with customer specifications and reduce the risk of costly product rejections. Increase sampling rates with the speed and consistency of the AI-powered analysis. Realize a more representative picture of overall product quality by collecting data on more samples in less time. Enjoy a user-friendly setup due to the system's AI programming. This allows new product specifications to be added in minutes rather than hours for a line change or product reformulation. Save time by using included AI libraries for meat and poultry products, with digitally stored data for easy retrieval. Designed with Meat Processors in Mind Additionally, the system is specifically designed for the harsh environments typical of meat processing plants. Its washdown-ready housing and removable, easy-to-clean conveyor belt supply the combination of durability and hygiene required in the meat industry. The system also includes an IP69-rated touchscreen operator interface with integrated PC. Jon Gilchrist, Technical Solutions Director for Protein Vision Inspection Systems at KPM Analytics, said, "Our system can increase sampling rates by tenfold or more compared to manual methods while also expanding the range of measurements taken. This level of data collection and speed is simply not possible with manual inspection or modified, basic camera systems while adding in objectivity and reliability that reduces waste and positively impacts profitability." Companies can leverage these capabilities to future-proof quality control operations. As labor challenges persist, TheiaVu WD-300 allows processors to optimize labor while dramatically increasing the amount and consistency of data collected. This comprehensive data collection enables processors to identify trends, anticipate issues, and make data-driven decisions to improve their overall operations.
