This program combines the rich heritage of ukiyo-e art with contemporary craftsmanship, integrating a guided neighborhood walk, hands-on woodblock printing, and shopping at a traditional artisan studio into one comprehensive cultural experience. It is designed primarily for inbound international travelers as well as domestic visitors with a strong interest in Japanese culture. Located within walking distance of two of Tokyo's most popular destinations—Asakusa and Tokyo Skytree—the program offers a rare opportunity to enjoy a calm, historically preserved district where Edo-era atmosphere and living craftsmanship coexist. Tourism Media Service spoke with Sumida City Tourism Association about the new tourism resources originating from Tokyo's Mukojima.

Mukojima developed along the eastern bank of the Sumida River during the Edo period and has long been known as a town of artisans. Even today, small independent workshops and family-run craft stores remain scattered throughout the neighborhood, producing items such as woodblock prints, folding screens, traditional paper, fittings, and decorative arts. Unlike large commercial tourist districts, Mukojima allows close interaction between visitors and craftspeople, offering direct access to production sites, tools, and techniques. This environment provides exceptional cultural value for travelers seeking authentic and meaningful experiences. The program fully leverages Mukojima's identity as a "living hub of traditional craftsmanship," guiding participants through a seamless flow of walking, learning, creating, and taking home their own artwork.

The experience begins near Tokyo Skytree Station on the Tobu Skytree Line with a 60-minute guided walking tour along the historic Sumida River area. Participants visit scenic and culturally significant sites such as the former Hikifune Canal, Tokyo Mizumachi, Sumida Park, the Sumida River embankment, and Ushijima Shrine—locations that frequently appeared as motifs in classic ukiyo-e prints. The walk highlights the fusion of Edo-period landscapes with the modern urban environment. After the tour, participants move to a local workshop for a hands-on traditional woodblock printing experience.

During the printing workshop, participants recreate the iconic image "The Great Wave" by world-renowned ukiyo-e master Katsushika Hokusai. This activity draws inspiration from the enduring global influence of Japonisme, the 19th-century movement that introduced Japanese art and aesthetics to Europe and continues to inspire admiration worldwide today. Guests may choose between traditional three-color or six-color printing methods, learning about pigment layering, washi paper textures, and classical printing techniques while completing their own artwork. Finished prints can be taken home as personal souvenirs, preserving the memory of the journey in tangible form. Afterward, visitors may browse and purchase handcrafted prints, washi products, and related artisanal goods at the adjoining studio shop, creating a fully integrated "Create, Learn, and Take Home" cultural experience.

The meeting point and main venue for the program is Kataoka Byobu Shop, established in 1946 and recognized as the only specialty folding screen (byōbu) store in Tokyo. The shop manages the entire process from production to retail, preserving rare traditional techniques. Inside the Kataoka Byobu Gallery, visitors can view a wide variety of works including large gold folding screens, lavish gold-leaf decorated screens, modern art collaborations, and memorial screens created to commemorate special life events. The gallery showcases both classical elegance and contemporary innovation, allowing guests to witness the evolving nature of Japanese craftsmanship firsthand. The shop also accepts custom consultations for folding screen production, making it not only a viewing space but a living workshop where tradition continues to thrive.

This program was developed to address challenges faced by traditional artisans, including declining demand and limited income opportunities. By linking tourism with cultural participation, it aims to support artisans' livelihoods while preserving and passing down traditional techniques. Through small-group, high-quality experiences, the initiative seeks to deepen cultural understanding while contributing to regional economic revitalization, positioning itself as a new model for sustainable cultural tourism in Tokyo.

Contact Information
Sumida City Tourism Association
TEL: +81-3-5608-6951
FAX: +81-3-5608-7130
E-MAIL: e-fukazawa@visit-sumida.jp
Contact Person: Eriko Fukazawa

English language support is available. For pricing, schedules, and detailed program information, please contact the association directly.

Reference Information
Kataoka Byobu Shop – Official Website
https://www.byoubu.co.jp/
Experience Introduction Facebook Page
https://www.facebook.com/GoldenScreenArtisanCulture

About Tourism Media Service:
An online news platform specializing in the tourism industry. Take the knives from Hinoura Hamono Koubou, for example. This blacksmith workshop uses proprietary methods grounded in scientific research, achieving both exceptional edge retention and ease of use. Blades that fuse over a century of forging expertise with innovative thinking have earned acclaim both at home and abroad. Meanwhile, Gyokusendo, a copperware house with over 200 years of history, continues to practice tsuiki doki, the traditional art of hand-hammering copper plates into elegant vessels. These pieces, which marry the beauty of handcraft with functional design, have won admirers from around the world.

From Nails to Knives: The History and Evolution of Craftsmanship
Tsubame-Sanjo's metalworking tradition traces its origins to Japanese nail-making some 400 years ago. Frequent flooding from the Shinano and Igarashi rivers created strong demand for nails to rebuild structures in this region. These nails found use not only in homes, but also in shrines, temples, and ships. As they circulated widely, nail-making became one of the foundations of local metalworking. Over time, production expanded to farming implements such as hoes and shears, then to kitchen knives, Western-style tableware, and other everyday tools, the industry evolving with each era's needs. After the Meiji period, stainless steel cutlery and tool manufacturing took off. Today, the region boasts such a diverse concentration of metalworking expertise that locals say there's nothing that cannot be made. Tsubame City and Sanjo City are home to thousands of small- and medium-sized enterprises, each bringing its own distinctive techniques and designs to global markets. In these communities, a guiding philosophy endures: don't simply inherit tradition; move forward by improving it. While honoring time-tested techniques, local manufacturers embrace new materials and contemporary design, ensuring constant evolution.

Where to Experience Factory Tours and Hands-On Craftsmanship
Tsubame-Sanjo has seen a growing number of open factories, manufacturing facilities that welcome the public for tours, hands-on experiences, and product sales. Small workshops once overlooked as tourism assets are now celebrated as experiential destinations, serving as venues where artisans pass their skills and philosophy on to the next generation. Here are some of the most popular spots and events.

Tsubame-Sanjo KOUBA no SAITEN
This major annual event takes place every autumn. Factories normally closed to the public open their doors, with craftspeople personally guiding visitors through production floors. Beyond factory tours, the festival features workshops and product sales, creating a region-wide celebration of open manufacturing.

The 13th festival was held October 2–5, 2025: https://kouba-fes.jp/en

Tsubame Industrial Museum
A facility offering hands-on experiences with Tsubame's diverse crafts.

GUANGZHOU, China, Jan. 22, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Insights emerging from a recent industrial AI forum, where Dayin Technology participated alongside leading experts, have brought renewed focus to the deepening divergence in U.S.-China artificial intelligence development. As the global race for AI dominance intensifies, China is carving out a distinct lead in one critical arena: the integration of AI with industrial manufacturing. This is propelled by a clear national strategy. While the U.S. pours vast resources into AIGC (AI-Generated Content) and foundational model research, China is executing a determined, policy-driven push for "AI+Industrial Manufacturing." The result is a pivotal divergence: as the U.S. explores AI's creative frontiers, China is systematically deploying it to solidify its position as the world's workshop.

Bridging the Data Gap: Small-Data AI Revolutionizes Industrial Manufacturing
This strategic focus has given rise to a pragmatic technological response: Small-Data AI. Industrial manufacturing, unlike the internet, generates limited, proprietary data, making the training of large, generic models often impractical. Instead of waiting for massive datasets, Chinese engineers and companies are pioneering AI solutions that deliver high accuracy with minimal initial samples. This approach allows for rapid, cost-effective deployment directly onto the factory floor, turning a traditional constraint into a competitive advantage.

On the Factory Floor: The Rise of Acoustic AI in Precision Machining
During Dayin Technology's collaboration on recent visits to advanced production facilities in the Greater Bay Area, the tangible impact of this strategy was evident. Vast workshops filled with CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines, responsible for crafting high-precision components, now operate with a new layer of intelligence. While smart factories globally have widely adopted visual AI for quality inspection, China's manufacturing sector is pioneering a breakthrough in a new sensory dimension: acoustic AI. These CNC machines are equipped with high-precision acoustic sensors and Small-Data AI models that continuously "listen" to the machining process, detecting production flaws that vision-based systems often miss.

Solving Intractable Problems: The acoustic sensor is specifically designed to capture the intrinsic, high-frequency stress waves generated by the physical interaction between the cutting tool and the workpiece material. Crucially, it possesses a key characteristic: high immunity to environmental interference. The AI system analyzes the acoustic feature in real-time to detect anomalies imperceptible to humans or traditional sensors. It reliably identifies events such as micro-fractures in smartphone glass casings, imminent cutting tool breakage, and deviations in drilling precision.

Efficiency and Yield Gains: The operational impact of this technology was evident. In environments where hundreds of CNC machines operate simultaneously, acoustic AI systems are delivering measurable improvements:

Predictive Capability: Real-time analysis of acoustic feature provides immediate warnings of tool failure or process drift, shifting from reactive stoppages to predictive maintenance.

Production Metrics: Early adopters report efficiency improvements exceeding 25% due to reduced unplanned downtime, alongside yield increases of 10-15% from the early interception of defect-causing conditions.

Small-Data Advantage: Unlike data-intensive U.S. AI approaches, these systems are trained with fewer than dozens initial samples using few-shot learning algorithm, sometimes even one-shot is enough , enabling rapid deployment in production lines.

A Cross-Industrial Paradigm
The application framework established in precision machining is proving highly transferable. Industry technologists note that the same core principle—using inherent mechanical acoustic feature for fault detection—is being adapted for crack detection in composite wind turbine blades and for pre-failure quality inspection of drive motors in industrial robots. This underscores a key strength: Small-Data AI solutions developed for one industrial niche can be adapted to create scalable, cross-industry platforms for predictive maintenance and quality control.

Divergent Paths and Future Implications
While American innovation excels in data-rich environments (AIGC, large language models) and benefits from unparalleled venture capital, China's policy-guided, application-first model is building a deep moat in industrial intelligence. The ability to solve concrete production problems, which are critical for complex, next-generation hardware manufacturing, with lean and fast-deploying AI is reshaping global supply chain dynamics.

As Dr. Ye, CTO of Dayin Technology, articulated at an industrial AI forum in 2025: "The competition is defining two distinct AI futures: one digital and generative, the other physical and optimization-driven. The next phase of industrial leadership will hinge on the maturity of 'physics-aware' AI." Within this framework, the capacity to decipher machinery's real-time physical signatures is translating into a decisive competitive advantage in smart manufacturing.

MIDDLETOWN, Del., April 2, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Makera, a leader in desktop CNC solutions, is redefining how professional camera equipment comes to life—by putting precision manufacturing directly into creators' studios.

In the world of professional filmmaking, creating new equipment has traditionally required more than just an idea. It demanded access to factories, CNC workshops, and complex supply chains—resources that have long been out of reach for independent creators.

Yu Kano, a Japan-based filmmaker, is changing that. Using the Carvera Air — a desktop CNC machine — he now designs, prototypes, and produces professional camera gear entirely from his own studio.

The Challenge: Slow, Costly, and Constrained by Outsourcing

Before integrating CNC capabilities into his workflow, Kano relied heavily on external manufacturers. His process followed a familiar pattern: design in CAD, send files out, then wait—often for weeks.

"Design finalization, ordering, machining, assembly, and testing all had to be handled externally," he says. "That led to long turnaround times and high costs due to minimum order quantities and repeated revisions."

While FDM 3D printing helped validate shapes, it fell short where it mattered most—precision, strength, and real-world machinability. Designs that looked promising on screen often failed when produced in metal, triggering another cycle of outsourcing, delays, and added costs.

In an industry where production timelines are tight and flexibility is critical, this wasn't just inefficient—it was limiting innovation.

The Turning Point: Bringing Carvera Air CNC Into the Studio

Everything changed when Kano introduced the Makera Carvera Air into his workflow.

Instead of replacing existing tools, he built a new hybrid process:

3D printing for complex or large geometries

CNC machining for high-precision, functional components

This combination unlocked both speed and accuracy.

"The freedom of additive manufacturing combined with the precision of CNC machining works extremely well," Kano says. "It dramatically accelerated design, prototyping, and verification."

For the first time, he could produce high-precision aluminum parts on demand—within hours, not weeks—and evaluate real-world performance immediately.

Carvera Air is a compact, space-efficient desktop CNC machine that offers professional-grade precision, making it ideal for both makers and professional users.

The Result: Faster Iteration, Better Products

With Carvera Air, Kano gained full control over his development process.

What once required multiple external steps can now be completed entirely in his studio:

Rapid prototyping

Functional testing

Immediate design iteration

This shift not only reduced costs but also enabled faster, more confident decision-making.

"Prototype, adjust, refine, repeat—that cycle is now incredibly fast," he explains.

Today, Kano is developing a series of professional camera accessories under his "Run & Gun" project—designed specifically for fast-paced production environments where existing solutions often fall short.

Makera, a leader in desktop CNC solutions, is redefining how professional camera equipment comes to life—by putting precision manufacturing directly into creators’ studios.

Built for the Real World: Compact, Clean, and Office-Ready

Carvera Air has now become Kano's most trusted assistant.

Compact enough to sit on a desk and fully enclosed to contain dust and debris, the machine fits seamlessly into an office environment—something traditional CNC systems cannot offer. This allows Kano to prototype and machine parts without the need for a dedicated workshop or external facilities, keeping the entire development process in-house.

He also operates the machine without cutting fluid, maintaining a clean and safe workspace. Despite its compact size and 200W spindle, the Carvera Air delivers stable aluminum machining, thanks to an optimized system where performance comes from more than just power.

"Real performance isn't just about power," he notes. "It's about the balance between rigidity, control, tooling, and system optimization."

Beyond Prototyping: From Ideas to Production

What began as a prototyping tool has evolved into a production asset.

Kano now uses Carvera Air for:

Small-batch manufacturing

Single- and double-sided PCBs

Laser processing

This level of versatility allows him to move from concept to production without leaving his studio.

A Bigger Shift: Redefining Who Can Build Hardware

Kano's story reflects a broader transformation in the industry.

With the rise of desktop CNC machines, accessible software, and direct-to-market channels, the ability to create professional-grade hardware is no longer limited to companies with factories.

Independent creators can now:

Build and test products faster

Produce in small batches

Iterate based on real user feedback

"I aim to build a camera-rig brand based on real on-set needs—things only working professionals truly understand," Kano says.

Looking Ahead

For Yu Kano, the journey is just beginning. But one thing is already clear:

The gap between idea and product is no longer a wall—it's a workflow.

And with tools like Carvera Air, that workflow now fits on a desktop.

Discover more real user stories at Makera: https://www.makera.com/blogs/maker-stories

SAN FRANCISCO and SUZHOU, China, March 2, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Innovent Biologics, Inc. ("Innovent") (HKEX: 01801), a world-class biopharmaceutical company that develops, manufactures, and commercializes high-quality medicines for the treatment of oncologic, autoimmune, cardiovascular and metabolic, ophthalmologic, and other major diseases, announces the non-covalent (reversible) Bruton's tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitor, Jaypirca® (pirtobrutinib), has received approval by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in China for a new indication for the treatment of adult patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia or small lymphocytic lymphoma (CLL/SLL) after at least one line of systemic therapy including a Bruton's tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitor.

Pirtobrutinib is a highly selective kinase inhibitor that utilizes a novel non-covalent binding mechanism to extend the benefit of targeting the BTK pathway in CLL/SLL patients previously treated with a covalent BTK inhibitor (ibrutinib, acalabrutinib, or zanubrutinib).[1],[2] Pirtobrutinib received approval from the U.S. FDA in January 2023 as a non‑covalent (reversible) BTK inhibitor. In October 2024, pirtobrutinib was approved in China as a monotherapy for the treatment of adult patients with relapsed or refractory mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) who have previously received at least two prior systemic therapies, including a Bruton's tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitor.

The approval of this new indication is based on results from the international, multicenter, randomized, Phase 3 BRUIN CLL‑321 study. BRUIN CLL‑321 is the world's first randomized Phase 3 trial conducted in patients with CLL/SLL who had previously been treated with a covalent BTK inhibitor (cBTKi). The study enrolled a total of 238 patients and evaluated the efficacy and safety of pirtobrutinib monotherapy versus investigator's choice of IdelaR (idelalisib plus rituximab) or BR (bendamustine plus rituximab). The results demonstrated that pirtobrutinib significantly prolonged median progression‑free survival (PFS) compared with the investigator's choice regimen (14.0 months vs 8.7 months; hazard ratio [HR] = 0.54). In addition, the discontinuation rate due to treatment‑related adverse events was lower with pirtobrutinib (5.2% vs 21.1%), further supporting its efficacy and tolerability advantages in patients previously treated with a covalent BTK inhibitor.[3]

Professor Lu-Gui Qiu, Principal Investigator of the BRUIN CLL‑321 study in China, Institute of Hematology & Blood Diseases Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, stated, "BTK inhibitors have become the preferred first‑ or second‑line treatment for patients with CLL/SLL, yet some patients still experience disease progression and have a poor prognosis. Studies have shown that the median overall survival for patients after discontinuing a covalent BTK inhibitor is only about 22.7 months.[4] Therefore, there is an urgent clinical need for new treatment. As a next‑generation, non‑covalent and reversible BTK inhibitor, pirtobrutinib represents an important advancement for patients with relapsed or refractory CLL. The BRUIN CLL‑321 study demonstrated its therapeutic potential in CLL/SLL. We believe it will offer an important treatment option for patients with CLL/SLL in China and help meet the needs of long‑term disease management in the future."

Dr. Li Wang, Lilly Corporate Senior Vice President, Head of Lilly China Drug Development & Medical Affairs Center, states, "The approval of pirtobrutinib for the CLL/SLL indication in China marks an important milestone in the treatment journey for Chinese CLL/SLL patients. It means that patients who continue to experience disease progression after covalent BTK inhibitor therapy can now gain timely access to this globally innovative treatment option. Supported by the efficacy and safety demonstrated in the BRUIN CLL‑321 study, we are pleased to offer a new therapeutic choice for CLL/SLL patient population with significant unmet medical needs in China. Looking ahead, Lilly will remain committed to accelerating the introduction of cutting‑edge therapies to help patients with hematologic malignancies in China achieve longer and better quality of survival. This is our enduring commitment to patients in China."

Dr. Hui Zhou, Chief R&D Officer of Oncology in Innovent, stated, "Jaypirca (pirtobrutinib) is a next-generation, non-covalent (reversible) BTK inhibitor. It offers a novel treatment option for patients who have previously received covalent BTK inhibitor therapy. The approval in China for CLL/SLL represents a significant breakthrough in this field, which ensures that CLL/SLL patients in China have timely access to this global therapeutic innovation. We will fully leverage Innovent's leading brand presence and commercialization capabilities in oncology, to accelerate the accessibility of this innovative therapy, thereby benefiting more cancer patients in need."

About BRUIN CLL-321
BRUIN CLL-321 is a Phase 3, randomized, open-label study of Jaypirca versus investigator's choice of idelalisib plus rituximab (IdelaR) or bendamustine plus rituximab (BR) in covalent Bruton tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitor pre-treated patients with relapsed and refractory chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) or small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL). Illumina's streamlined multiomics workflows are enabling customers to achieve game-changing breakthroughs in oncology, pharmacogenomics, and more."

Illumina Spatial Technology decodes complex tissues with ease

The human lymphatic system is notoriously difficult to map due to its size and variability among individuals. Spatial technology holds promise to probe biomolecular signatures that can improve the diagnosis and prognosis of cancer and even explain how it metastasizes in the body.

Dr. Ioannis Vlachos, PhD, director of the Spatial Technologies Unit within Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), leveraged Illumina Spatial Technology and visualization software to investigate human lymph nodes and lymphatic channels.

"Our research as an NIH HuBMAP Tissue Mapping Center aims to shed light on the complex function of lymphatic vessels, which are exceptionally challenging samples due to their low adhesion, surrounding adipose tissue, and small size. Illumina Spatial Technology generated high-quality data from samples ranging from very small to quite sizable, producing the first ever whole transcriptome spatial datasets for human lymphatic collector vessels," said Vlachos. "The large capture area and serial sections helped us resolve single‑cell‑thick layers and reconstruct three‑dimensional representations of tissue organization with whole transcriptome capture at 1um resolution. Our institution and the broader research community can use these datasets to answer many possible research questions."

In another study conducted by Illumina researchers, Illumina Spatial Technology outperformed other competing technologies for improved sensitivity, higher resolution, and higher throughput at a lower cost.

The study mapped breast cancer progression across a range of precancerous to high-grade ductal carcinomas. Whole-transcriptome profiling revealed unexpected nuances of tumor microenvironments, including identification of a novel set of cancer-associated fibroblasts. Researchers found more than 2000 unique transcripts in each cell, showing an unprecedented level of sensitivity.

"Each tumor is unique and its gene expression is never uniform," said Cande Rogert, vice president and global head of advanced sciences at Illumina. "By interrogating a large surface area of tissue at high resolution, we were able to analyze the tumor genetics within their real context and identify new cell subtypes. The resulting multiomic insights provide additional information and have the potential to drive more precise therapeutic development."

Illumina 5-base solution delivers epigenetic context for cancer diagnostics

A team of researchers from Broad Clinical Labs, working with hospital research partners in Boston and Europe, recently explored the application of Illumina's 5-base solution to support clinical research for pediatric kidney cancer. This type of cancer typically requires invasive surgical procedures to diagnose, monitor, and treat that are not always feasible.

The researchers are seeking genomic alternative approaches. Existing translational research ctDNA assays can miss disease signals in very rare tumors such as Wilms and rhabdoid. Illumina's 5-base solution enabled simultaneous genomic and methylation profiling to add additional epigenomics signals that identify cases missed by conventional approaches.

Illumina 5-base whole genomes from renal cancer patients were tested in methylation-based classifiers and were able to predict the presence of rhabdoid tumors missed by genomics-only methods. Future work will expand 5-base profiling to additional FFPE and cfDNA samples, with the goal of training advanced machine learning models. These efforts may ultimately provide clinicians with more accurate diagnostic insights and improve outcomes for patients.

"Combining these molecular signals in a single, scalable process can help us develop non-invasive diagnostics for cancers," said Carrie Cibulskis, director of cancer genomics at Broad Clinical Labs. "We're working toward a minimally invasive methylation-aware assay for cancer diagnosis and treatment selection."

Integrated multiomics improves understanding of advanced ovarian cancer

Nearly 80% of ovarian cancers are diagnosed at advanced stages, where survival drops to about 30%. When caught early, survival exceeds 90%. For women presenting with an adnexal mass, accurately distinguishing between benign and malignant disease is critical to guiding appropriate referral and surgical care, yet current diagnostic tools lack sufficient accuracy to reliably support these decisions.

Bodour Salhia, PhD, a professor of cancer biology at the University of Southern California's Keck School of Medicine applied Illumina's 5-base solution, Illumina Protein Prep, and Illumina Spatial Technology to adnexal masses. The method enabled them to more easily differentiate between cancerous and benign tumor types using cell-free DNA and explore more sensitive ways to gain deeper biological context for ovarian cancer. Results included the first reported spatial analyses of adnexal masses and revealed localized tumor biology not previously reported.

"These findings create a multiomic framework for ovarian cancer research and lay the groundwork for an effective liquid biopsy in particularly challenging ovarian cancers with the potential to transform diagnostic practices and outcomes," said Salhia. "Layering the omics gave us a winning combination, providing more context for earlier cancer identification."

Illumina's 5-base solution allowed for sensitive, integrated genetic and methylation analysis of tumor samples without compromising specificity. The methylation signals separated malignant and benign samples better than traditional approaches, which can often fail to separate cell types.

Illumina Protein Prep allowed the researchers to identify novel gene sets, proteins, and pathways in ovarian cancer, creating new lines of inquiry in cancer biology research, biomarker and drug development. Layering Protein Prep and 5-base data through a custom pipeline in Illumina Connected Multiomics quickly resolved a false positive case.

The layered approach helped researchers establish parameters for targeted exploration of gene expression in spatial data. Using Illumina Spatial Technology, transcriptomic data helped to resolve signals driving false positive results.

Illumina Connected Multiomics accelerates sample-to-answer pipeline

Multimodal analytics from Illumina Connected Multiomics provides deeper insights and overcomes the fragmented, siloed views produced by isolated assays, empowering researchers with a new understanding of cancer mechanisms, tumor heterogeneity, and potential therapeutic targets.

"Multiomics is advancing our understanding of disease from a single dimension to a more complete biological landscape," said Jenny Zheng, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Greater China at Illumina. "Illumina is committed to deeply integrating multiomics innovation with bioinformatics and AI capabilities to build an integrated multiomics ecosystem that accelerates the journey from sample to insight. We will continue to collaborate with local partners, as well as clinical and research experts, to accelerate the localization and adoption of innovative multiomics solutions. By expanding into speech-to-speech translation, DeepL now delivers instant voice translation for virtual meetings, in-person conversations, and customer-facing touchpoints via API, empowering teams to collaborate anywhere without language barriers.

Jarek Kutylowski, Founder & CEO of DeepL said: "Today, we reach another frontier in translation: real-time, spoken communication. Our mission has always been to break down language barriers and we've now overcome one of the biggest of all. DeepL Voice-to-Voice allows everyone to speak naturally in their own language without the friction or cost of interpreters. We're fusing world-class voice models with the gold-standard translation AI we've been pushing to new heights. Now, expertise is all that counts, not language."

DeepL Voice: Real-Time Communication Across Platforms

DeepL Voice is built to overcome one of the critical language barriers remaining in organizations - spoken translation, whether in person or virtually. The DeepL Voice-to-Voice product suite includes:

Voice for Meetings: Provides real-time translation in platforms like Microsoft Teams and Zoom, allowing participants to speak their native language while others hear it in theirs. (Early access programme in June, registration now open).

Voice for Conversations (Mobile & Web): Voice for Conversations now extends beyond mobile, enabling a true multi platform experience that can be deployed in environments where installing apps is not practical or allowed. This enables frontline workers to maintain shared understanding during hands-on interactions with multiple speakers. With multi device access, participants can receive simultaneous voice translation in real time. (Generally available April 30).

Voice-to-Voice API: Enables businesses to integrate DeepL's voice translation directly into their own internal applications and customer-facing tools, such as their contact center. (Early access programme ongoing, registration now open).

Customization with spoken terms: New quality optimization capabilities in DeepL Voice help ensure specific terminology is captured, transcribed, and translated more accurately in real time, including industry specific terms, product and company names, and given names, even when speech is fast or highly technical. As part of this, DeepL translation glossaries will be integrated into DeepL Voice so users can standardize key terminology across conversations. (Generally available on May 7).

DeepL is also making its existing voice-to-text technology more accessible with small teams being able to now purchase DeepL Voice directly online. This self-serve model allows businesses to start a free trial and deploy voice translation immediately to test before expanding.

The launch also introduces support for a broad range of languages for DeepL Voice, including all 24 official EU languages, alongside Vietnamese, Thai, Arabic, Norwegian, Hebrew, Bengali, and Tagalog. The total number of languages for DeepL Voice now stands at over forty.

In blind evaluations, conducted independently by Slator and commissioned by DeepL, DeepL Voice was consistently chosen by professional experts: 96% of linguists preferred DeepL Voice over the native translation solutions provided by Google, Microsoft, and Zoom, citing superior fluency and contextual accuracy. DeepL Voice for Zoom and DeepL Voice for Microsoft Teams achieved exceptional quality scores of 96.4/100 and 96.3/100, respectively, significantly outperforming competing platforms.

Yoichi Okuyama, Head of DX System Department at Pioneer, added: "Relying solely on English proficiency for global collaboration often slowed us down, as team members hesitated to contribute complex ideas. By implementing DeepL Voice, we've removed that friction and created a more inclusive environment where everyone can speak confidently in their native language. This shift has helped accelerate our business processes; with barriers removed, we've seen more active participation and faster decision-making across our global teams. It's transformed translation from a technical necessity into a key enabler for speed and efficiency."

Launching the next generation DeepL Translator platform

Alongside the Voice launch, DeepL is evolving its core Translator into the next-generation DeepL Translator platform, creating the end-to-end translation infrastructure for modern enterprises. DeepL is addressing the inefficiencies of traditional translation management, which often relies on slow, rigid and manual coordination that is very expensive for businesses.

"Global businesses no longer have a translation problem; they have an operating model problem, with today's language solutions often being too slow to scale and a costly drag on growth for businesses," added Jarek. "We're bringing translation and language fully into the AI age. By centralizing translation operations in an AI-first, multilingual platform, every team can access fast, high-quality translations without being held back by legacy tools or relying on expensive third-party language services."

With its new Translator platform, DeepL is tackling key pain points in enterprise translation operations.

Translation Flow: Translation no longer slows work down or sits in separate tools. Content moves through existing systems and is translated instantly, with the right terminology and tone applied automatically. Every team works from the same voice, without extra steps or manual coordination.

Translation Quality Assessment: Teams can see exactly how reliable a translation is, with an evaluation criteria highlighting anything that might need attention. Instead of guessing, teams know when content is ready to use and when it needs a second look.

Ongoing improvements: Edits can be made directly in the product, with full control over the final output. Every correction is learned from, so translations continuously improve over time, adapting to each business as team members work.

By removing friction across the translation process, DeepL's Translator platform extends high-quality translation capabilities beyond a single function and into the hands of teams across the business, directly within their day-to-day workflows.

Geoffrey Wright, Global Solution Owner - GenAI and Digital Experience at Mondelēz International recently highlighted the impact of this shift: "At Mondelēz, we don't settle for slow—on the road or in our workflows. Our old translation process was like driving on a flat tyre, but DeepL is full service at 100 mph. By embedding their Language AI, teams like M&A and Legal are handling sensitive documents with top speed and total confidentiality. When you make the impossible look that easy, word travels fast; we've seen adoption accelerate across the entire organization."

About DeepL

DeepL is a global AI company building the language infrastructure that powers global business. More than 200,000 business teams and millions of individuals use DeepL's Language AI platform to communicate globally, collaborate and operate across languages in real time. Project Tapestry will build a new open-source platform to enable distributed, globally federated training of frontier open models.

With Project Tapestry, the AI Alliance aims to create a new path for advanced AI development, one in which institutions, industries, and nations can join together to contribute to build more capable open base models, while retaining control of their data and the ability to build on the base to produce sovereign derivative models aligned to their own priorities, industries, culture, laws, and values.

Alongside Project Tapestry, the AI Alliance announced that Yann LeCun, Turing Award laureate, Chairman of AMI Labs, and one of the most influential figures in modern artificial intelligence, will join as Chief Science Advisor to the AI Alliance. In that role, LeCun will help guide the scientific direction of the AI Alliance focusing on Project Tapestry as it advances from initial architecture into technical implementation and global collaboration.

"As AI is fast becoming part of the common infrastructure, there is a need for foundation models to be open so as to enable sovereignty and cultural diversity. As a key component of our information and knowledge infrastructure, AI should not be controlled by a handful of private entities through proprietary products. Some of the most important advances in science and technology have come from open science, open-source software, and open technology platforms at a broad scale. Project Tapestry is an ambitious effort to bring that model to AI — to create the conditions for open, distributed progress on systems of real capability." – Dr. Yann LeCun, Chairman of AMI Labs, Professor at NYU, and Chief Science Advisor to the AI Alliance

Frontier Open Models without Centralizing Data and Compute

Today, the development of the most capable AI models is increasingly concentrated within a small number of companies and regions. Open-weight models have expanded access, but core decisions about training data, model objectives, architecture, and evaluation typically remain concentrated within the institutions that originate them. At the same time, many sovereign AI model efforts face steep barriers in compute, funding, data access, and specialized talent.

Project Tapestry offers a more powerful alternative: a collaborative approach to AI model development in which participants can help build a shared open foundation without surrendering their data, strategic autonomy, or downstream control. Its long-term vision is to develop an open global model — a shared open source base foundation model that can draw on broader pools of expertise, compute, and domain knowledge than any single organization can typically assemble alone — while enabling participants to create sovereign derivative models tailored to their own societal, industrial, scientific, or mission-specific needs, and aligned to their own governance frameworks, languages, values, and priorities.

"Until now, many sovereign and sector-specific AI efforts have faced steep barriers in compute, data access, funding, and specialized talent," said Dr. Christopher Nguyen, Chief Architect of Project Tapestry, Board Member of the AI Alliance, and CEO & Co-Founder of Aitomatic. "Project Tapestry is designed to overcome that constraint through federated collaboration. The idea is simple but powerful: build a shared global base openly, then enable each participant to extend it in ways they fully own and control."

From Launch to Global Technical Mobilization

Over time, the Alliance expects Project Tapestry to foster a vibrant and enduring ecosystem of collaborative, sovereignty-preserving model and application development. The AI Alliance's 501(c)(3) nonprofit research organization will serve as the community home for Project Tapestry. It will host and support the Tapestry platform and open source technical assets including models that the AI Alliance develops with the platform. Project Tapestry will be governed by a board of representatives from major contributing organizations globally.

The AI Alliance is convening a workshop in Paris on May 7-8, bringing together technical leaders from around the world to define Project Tapestry's architecture, roadmap and model development priorities. The Heart to Heart Parent‑Child Programme of Save the Children Hong Kong is a parent and child support programme that aims to help parents build confidence and skills in practising positive parenting and non‑violent communication, enabling children to feel respected, develop awareness of self‑protection, and strengthen parent‑child and family relationships.

The couple hopes to learn positive parenting through the programme, fostering a family relationship built on mutual respect.

Watch video interview: https://savethechildren.click/H2H_AppleCheukStory_PR

With demanding work commitments, parents often strive to provide for their children materially yet may lack the time or energy to truly understand one another's feelings — which can strain family relationships. For Cheuk and Apple, parents of a four‑year‑old boy, becoming mum and dad gradually made them realise how deeply their own childhood experiences — growing up under scolding, pressure and emotional suppression, have shaped the way they now interact with their son. "In the past, whenever a problem came up, my first instinct was always to fix it straight away," Cheuk recalled. Influenced by his upbringing, Cheuk often tackled conflicts by issuing instructions or letting emotions take charge, sometimes overlooking how his child or partner might feel in the moment. Apple shares that a lack of understanding and emotional support in her own childhood also affected how relationships are formed later in life. "I didn't want to repeat that same pattern," Apple explains. This reflection motivated the couple to join Save the Children Hong Kong's Heart to Heart Parent‑Child Programme, breaking the cycle of traditional punitive discipline.

Building Loving Family and Daily Routine: Learning to Parent, Rediscovering Oneself

The Heart to Heart Parent‑Child Programme is a parent and child support programme based on Save the Children's child protection framework, which has been implemented in over 40 countries worldwide. Adapted for Hong Kong, the programme has so far served more than 700 parents and caregivers and over 1,000 children. It aims to help parents build confidence and skills in practising positive parenting and non‑violent communication, enabling children to feel respected, develop awareness of self‑protection, and strengthen parent‑child and family relationships.

Programme facilitator Janet notes that many parents genuinely value their relationship with their children—"they want to do well but don't know how". Under heavy social and work pressure, it is easy for parents to fall back on familiar but unhealthy forms of discipline.

"Positive parenting does not mean spoiling." Janet explained that the approach emphasises both family warmth and guidance with structure, which means acknowledging children's emotions and needs, while also setting clear and safe boundaries. This helps children feel understood and, at the same time, learn appropriate behaviour and social norms.

Facilitator Janet explains that the programme emphasises both "family warmth" and "guidance with structure".

In the parent group, Cheuk and Apple were introduced to many new concepts, such as "address feelings first, then deal with the problem" and the "Iceberg Theory" for identifying the underlying causes behind emotional outbursts. These concepts, which at first seemed abstract, gradually became practical and actionable through the four‑session parent workshop combining discussions and real‑life examples.

Parallel Learning for Parents and Children: Helping Children Put Emotions into Words

Parents are introduced to practical tools in the programme to help children recognise and express their feelings. One of these tools is the use of picture books and art activities.

"Colours and drawings can be a language for children," Janet shared. Through picture books, parents and children can build a shared emotional language. For example, using colours to describe anger, calmness, or uneasiness helps children articulate their feelings more easily.

Apple shared that picture books and drawing created new opportunities for conversation. Even though her son is still young, "when we really sit down and listen, he does express himself." The programme also includes parallel groups for children aged 6–12, allowing parents and children to learn positive communication together.

The children's group uses picture books and art activities as tools to teach children to recognise and express emotions.

A small episode during the interview at the park perfectly illustrated how the family practises positive parenting. When their son had a tantrum after struggling with a drawing, Apple did not scold him and said calmly instead, "We wouldn't know unless you teach us," and expressed her feelings by saying, "When I see you losing your temper, I feel really upset."

By expressing emotion from Apple's own perspective, her son calmed down, shared what he needed, and with Cheuk's help, the family continued enjoying their time together. Janet praised the couple's patience. "They communicate honestly and share their feelings. These are the important elements in positive parenting."

Apple and Cheuk patiently listened during their son's emotional outburst, successfully soothing him and understanding his needs.

A Hug Speaks Louder Than Words: Positive Communication Strengthens Family Bonds

After learning positive parenting, they found that it not only improved their relationship with their son, but also strengthened their relationship as a couple. "Whether it's with my child or my wife, paying attention to their emotions is so important," Cheuk reflected. "Before, I just wanted to fix problems, but now I understand that sometimes the best response is simply a hug."

For the couple, parenting is no longer just about "discipline" but a shared journey of companionship.

Apple said the mother and son now relate to each other as companions, supporting and growing alongside one another. "We're not trying to raise a child who fits some standard answer," Apple says. "We want him to be someone who can feel love, understand himself, and respect others." That wish perfectly embodies the core spirit of Heart to Heart Programme.

For Apple and Cheuk, parenting is no longer just about discipline, but about becoming companions on a shared journey of growth.

Kalina Tsang, CEO of Save the Children Hong Kong, expressed her delight in witnessing Apple and Cheuk's change:

"We are seeing more and more parents realise the importance of non‑violent communication and positive parenting. This not only improves parent‑child relationships but also effectively reduces emotional outbursts and the risk of escalating conflict. These changes are an essential first step in preventing child abuse.

With the implementation of the Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse Ordinance, an important safety net is now in place for children. Yet this is only the starting point, not the end. We must also focus on prevention and education, helping families reduce risks before problems arise. Save the Children Hong Kong holds an uncompromising belief in non‑violent, positive parenting as the most effective approach to prevention.

Protecting children is a responsibility shared by the whole community, and we will continue to support Hong Kong families to ensure that every child grows up in safety, with respect and love."
Hashtag: #SavetheChildrenHongKong #香港救助兒童會 #positiveparenting #正向管教 #childprotection #保護兒童

https://savethechildren.org.hk/en/
https://www.facebook.com/savethechildrenhk
https://www.instagram.com/savethechildrenhk/
YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/savehk
The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement.

About Save the Children Hong Kong

Save the Children believes every child deserves a future. With the 2026 Lunar New Year barely behind us, Yiwu International Trade City has set out on a new journey amid the festive atmosphere of its market reopening, carrying forward the strong momentum of 2025 and igniting a fresh wave of global procurement. As a core platform anchored in Yiwu's physical marketplace and bridging supply and demand across the world, Yiwugo has seen rising demand across multiple product categories, including perler beads and pet toys. Orders are pouring in, painting a vivid picture of the "world's supermarket" kicking off the Year of the Horse with remarkable vitality. It also underscores Yiwugo's role in empowering the real economy and linking domestic and global markets.

Product images from relevant stores on Yiwugo.com

Since the reopening, perler bead toys have become one of the market's standout categories, extending the explosive growth recorded in 2025. Demand has remained strong both at home and abroad, leaving many merchants in the hectic yet enviable position of scrambling to keep up with customers' requests for restocking.

Yan Lijuan, owner of Bright Toys on Yiwugo, has been in the industry for seven years. The company specializes in 2.6 mm perler beads, handmade beaded products, and related items. Since the perler bead market surged in the second half of 2025, her business has entered a period of rapid expansion. Orders from domestic and international markets are now roughly evenly split, including purchases from several high-quality Amazon clients. On peak days, order volumes can reach as high as RMB 20,000. Such a robust demand has carried over from last year into the new market-opening season, keeping her workshop running at full capacity.

With Yiwugo's support, Set Sail DIY Gift Firm, another business long engaged in the perler bead industry, has grown from an export-oriented enterprise into one thriving in both domestic and international markets. Its owner, Wu Yin, has been involved in the production and sales of perler beads since 2013. In the early years, she capitalized on Yiwugo's strengths to introduce 5 mm perler beads to overseas markets. Known for their premium quality—eco-friendly and non-toxic, free of burrs and holes, and featuring a high melting point and remarkable durability—the products quickly gained popularity in Spain, Mexico, Chile, Japan, and the Republic of Korea (ROK). Through Yiwugo's precise business matchmaking, these high-quality perler beads have built a stable and loyal customer base, including a Spanish client who has maintained the partnership for more than a decade, with monthly purchases consistently ranging from RMB 30,000 to RMB 50,000.

As demand for perler beads surges in China, Yiwugo's market insights and extensive customer network have also encouraged overseas buyers to source 2.6 mm perler beads, creating a positive cycle in which domestic and international markets energize and empower each other. Today, Set Sail DIY Gift Firm offers up to 296 color options for the Chinese market, while its international product line includes more than 70 varieties. Such a broad portfolio enables the company to meet the diverse needs of customers across different markets.

Since the beginning of the Year of the Horse, one of Wu Yin's long-standing clients in Wuhan has referred 15 owners of brick-and-mortar handmade craft stores from across China to her. Meanwhile, a steady flow of accurately matched Yiwugo customers from Wuhan, Shanghai, Lanzhou, and other regions has provided fresh impetus for the growth of Set Sail DIY Gift Firm. On the day of our interview alone, Wu Yin secured two trial orders from new clients via Yiwugo, each valued at RMB 10,000. The outstanding quality of her products has left her highly confident in winning repeat orders.

The surging popularity of perler beads is by no means an isolated phenomenon. On Yiwugo, other categories such as pet toys have also seen a strong start to the trading season. Their emergence as frequently searched products in overseas markets highlights Yiwugo's diversified and forward-looking category strategy.

With Yiwugo's support, Ninghai Dougez Pet Products Co., Ltd. is exporting its products to Europe, the United States, South America, Southeast Asia, Japan, the ROK, and other countries and regions. Its operator, Lu Yanfei, has devoted 18 years to this industry and runs a modern factory integrating manufacturing and sales. Recently, procurement demand for pet toys on Yiwugo has continued to grow, while customer preferences have become increasingly segmented: some buyers prioritize premium quality, whereas others place greater emphasis on value for money. Among these products, electric cat teaser wands have seen particularly strong demand in the US and Southeast Asian markets, with Dougez's top-performing clients purchasing up to 20,000 units per month. At the same time, a steady stream of high-quality overseas buyers, precisely matched and connected through Yiwugo, has provided the company with sustained confidence in expanding its global presence.

From the perler bead boom at home and abroad to the growing overseas demand for pet toys, each wave of activity on Yiwugo offers a vivid testament to the dynamism of the "world's supermarket". Anchored in Yiwu's physical marketplace and powered by digital technology, the platform bridges offline stores with buyers around the world. It helps local merchants bring their premium products beyond Chinato the international stage, while enabling overseas buyers to source directly from primary suppliers without ever leaving home. With the Year of the Horse off to a strong start, Yiwugo will continue to capitalize on its strengths to help more merchants capture business opportunities, enhance the global influence of Yiwu's small commodities, and usher in a new chapter in the high-quality development of the "world's supermarket".
